Sawyer is a small place in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.

Sawyer is located between two other communities, Carlton and Cromwell. You can find it right on State Highway 210 (MN 210). It sits on the southern edge of the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation. This community is one of three main places where the reservation's offices are located.

Sawyer is about 11 miles west of Cloquet. It's also 11 miles east of Cromwell. Other nearby communities include Big Lake and Iverson.

History of Sawyer

Sawyer has been around for a long time. A post office opened here in 1891. This means people could send and receive mail from this spot. A railroad official chose the name "Sawyer" for the community.

One of the oldest buildings in Sawyer is the historic Church of Sts. Joseph and Mary. It was built way back in 1884. This church is an important part of the community's past.
