Scheuren was first written about in the year 1398. Back then, its name was Schüren.

Around 1255, the Counts of Neuchâtel-Nidau gave the village of Scheuren to a place called Gottstatt Abbey. Later, near the end of the 1300s, the city of Bern took ownership of the village.

Under Bern's rule, Scheuren became part of the Nidau area. It was also where a local court was held for Scheuren and nearby villages. At first, it was part of the Büttenberg church area. But after the Protestant Reformation in 1528, it joined the new church area of Gottstatt.

Overcoming Floods and Growing

The village was built next to the Zihl/Thielle river. This river often flooded, which damaged buildings and farm fields. Most people in Scheuren earned a living by farming or fishing in the river.

To stop the floods, the river was changed, and the Nidau-Büren Canal was built. This happened between 1868 and 1875. This project removed the flood risk and created more land for farming.

In 1925, a bridge was built that connected Scheuren to the nearby town of Orpund. Even though the big city of Biel is close by, Scheuren is still mostly a farming village today. It also has a few small factories and businesses. In 1970, the second tennis center in all of Switzerland was built right here in Scheuren.
