Schuyler is a small town located in Herkimer County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 3,420 people lived there. The town is in the western part of Herkimer County, just east of the city of Utica.

History of Schuyler
Early Settlement and Formation
People first started settling in the Schuyler area around 1765. The town of Schuyler was officially created in 1792. It was formed from a part of the nearby town of Herkimer.
Changes to Town Borders
Over the years, Schuyler's size changed a few times.
- In 1797, some of Schuyler's land was used to create the new town of Trenton.
- In 1798, more land was taken to form the town of Deerfield. Deerfield is now in Oneida County.
- Finally, in 1806, a part of Schuyler was used to create the town of Newport.

Location and Size
Schuyler is about 104.2 square kilometers (40.23 square miles) in total area. Most of this area, about 103.3 square kilometers (39.87 square miles), is land. The rest, about 0.9 square kilometers (0.36 square miles), is water.
Natural and Man-Made Features
The western border of Schuyler touches Oneida County. The southern border of the town follows the Mohawk River.
Important transportation routes pass through the southern part of Schuyler. These include the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) and the Erie Canal. There is also a rest stop called the Schuyler Travel Plaza on the westbound side of the Thruway within the town.
