Sean Corcoran's Art Journey
Sean Corcoran is always exploring new ways to make art. In recent years, he has shown his work in digital art and photography. He also enjoys mapmaking. Sean even uses his artistic skills for interior design, helping to make spaces look beautiful. He is a member of The Institute of Designers of Ireland.
Sean lives in Waterford, Ireland with his family. He is the artistic director of The Art Hand. This is an art school in Waterford. It teaches many different art forms, including stained glass, mosaic, digital art, film, and painting.
The Salvage Shop and Theatre
Sean used to be the main artist and designer at a shop called The Salvage Shop. He owned it with his father, Jim. An art critic once called it "an emporium of the imagination." This means it was a place full of creative ideas! In 1998, The Salvage Shop even helped a theatre company. They worked on a play called The Salvage Shop, which was inspired by Sean and Jim's unique store.
Art Shows and Collaborations
Sean Corcoran has had many art shows where only his work was displayed. Some of these shows include Bandsaw and Glasscutter (1996) and Streetscape and Other Shapes (1999). He also had shows like Photo Distortions (2005) and Lost and Found (2006).
He has also been part of many group art shows. In 2000, he worked with an American artist named Ernest Ruckle. They created art for the Euro Disney Art Show. This show was held in a famous gallery in Soho, New York.
Sean is always working on new projects. He has a series of photographic projects. He calls some of these Drive by Shootings and The Face of a City. You can see many of his artworks on his official website. He also keeps an updated journal there.
Mapping Omey Island
In 2009, Sean finished a special project for Omey Island. This island is in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. He created a map, a guide, and even a DVD about the island. Sean has a fun story about Omey Island too. He says he saw a mysterious creature called a Dobhar-chú in the island's lake. A Dobhar-chú is a legendary Irish creature, sometimes described as a giant otter!
Giant Sand Art
Sean Corcoran is also famous for making huge pictures on beaches. He often creates these amazing "beach murals" in the sand at Copper Coast Geopark. His unique creations have been featured in the media many times.
