Sean Leon's Music Journey
Sean Leon began his music career in July 2013 by releasing his first mixtape, Ninelevenne, the Tragedy. A mixtape is like an album, but often released independently. He followed this with another project called Narcissus, the Drowning of Ego in January 2014. Both of these early projects were produced by Jordan Evans. After Narcissus, he spent a year working on a collection of songs called King Of The Wild Things.
In February 2017, Sean Leon released his first official studio album, I Think You've Gone Mad (Or the Sins of the Father). Later that year, in November 2017, he released an audio-film titled "C.C.W.M.T.T". An audio-film is a story told mostly through sound. In 2018, he released Sean Leon (The Death Of).
In 2021, Sean Leon released his album God's Algorithm in a very special way. Instead of putting it on regular music streaming services, he made it available only on a special website. On this website, fans could buy the music and interact with visuals, audio files, and even special digital items called NFTs. In 2023, he released the album In Loving Memory.
Working with Other Artists
Sean Leon has worked with many other musicians. After appearing on Daniel Caesar's Pilgrim's Paradise music project in April 2016, Leon released his own song called "Matthew in the Middle". This song featured Daniel Caesar and was even used in the soundtrack for the TV show Insecure.
Sean Leon and Daniel Caesar continued to work together on Caesar's albums Freudian (2017) and Case Study 01 (2019). Sean Leon has also released songs produced by WondaGurl and worked with other Toronto artists like River Tiber and Jazz Cartier.
Big Collaborations
In 2019, Sean Leon had a demo song called "The Glade". While working on Daniel Caesar's Case Study 01 album in Los Angeles, his friend River Tiber suggested he share his demo with Ye. This happened at one of Ye's Sunday Service performances.
This meeting led to Sean Leon helping write parts of several songs on Ye's album Jesus Is King. He helped write "Selah", "Jesus Is Lord", and the chorus for "Use This Gospel". He also helped decide the order of songs on the album. His demo "The Glade" later became the song "Up from the Ashes" on the deluxe version of Ye's album Donda. This gave Sean Leon a credit for writing and producing the song. He also received a writing credit on Justin Bieber's popular song "Peaches". Sean Leon has also been a guest writer for the TV series Utopia Falls.
More recently, he helped write the first song, "Stars", on the album Vultures 1. This album was released on February 10, 2024, by ¥$, which is a music group formed by Ye and Ty Dolla Sign.
Sean Leon's album In Loving Memory was considered for the 2024 Polaris Music Prize, which is a big award for Canadian music.
