Sean Leon's Music Journey
Early Music Releases
Sean Leon began his music career in July 2013 by releasing his first mixtape, Ninelevenne, the Tragedy. Soon after, in January 2014, he released his second project called Narcissus, the Drowning of Ego. Both of these early projects featured music produced by Jordan Evans. After Narcissus came out, Sean Leon spent a year releasing songs for a collection called King Of The Wild Things.
First Studio Albums
In February 2017, Sean Leon released his first official studio album, I Think You've Gone Mad (Or the Sins of the Father). Later that year, in November 2017, he released an audio-film titled "C.C.W.M.T.T". In 2018, he followed up with another album, Sean Leon (The Death Of).
Unique Album Releases
In 2021, Sean Leon released his album God's Algorithm in a very different way. It was not available on regular music streaming services. Instead, fans could buy it from a special website. On this site, users could interact with visuals, listen to audio, and even buy digital collectibles called NFTs and clothing. In 2023, he released the soundtrack album In Loving Memory before a film called "House of Leon" was released.
Working with Other Artists
Sean Leon has worked with many other talented musicians. After appearing on Daniel Caesar's Pilgrim's Paradise EP in April 2016, Leon released his own song "Matthew in the Middle." This song featured Daniel Caesar and was produced by Jovi, Jordan Evans, and Jack Rochon. It was even included on the soundtrack for the HBO TV show Insecure.
Sean Leon and Daniel Caesar continued to work together on Caesar's albums Freudian (2017) and Case Study 01 (2019). Sean Leon has also released several songs produced by WondaGurl. He has also collaborated with other Toronto artists like River Tiber and Jazz Cartier.
Writing for Famous Artists
In 2019, Sean Leon had a demo song called "The Glade." While he was working on Daniel Caesar's Case Study 01 album in Los Angeles, his friend and collaborator River Tiber suggested he share the demo with Ye. This happened at one of West's Sunday Service performances.
This meeting led to Sean Leon helping to write parts of songs like "Selah", "Jesus Is Lord", and the chorus for "Use This Gospel". He also helped arrange the songs for Kanye West's album Jesus Is King. Sean Leon's demo "The Glade" later became the song "Up from the Ashes" on the special edition of West's album Donda. This earned him credit for writing and producing the track.
As mentioned, he also received credit for co-writing Justin Bieber's popular song "Peaches". Sean Leon has also been a guest writer for the TV series Utopia Falls. In February 2024, he co-wrote the opening song "Stars" for the ¥$ album Vultures 1, which is a collaboration between Ye and Ty Dolla Sign.
