Sean Michael Rooney is an amazing American volleyball player. He was born on November 13, 1982. Sean is a key member of the United States men's national volleyball team. He won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008. He also earned gold medals in the FIVB Volleyball World League in both 2008 and 2014.

Early Life and High School
Sean Rooney grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. He went to Wheaton Warrenville South High School. In 2001, he was named the Illinois State Co-Player of the Year for volleyball. He helped his team win the state championship that year. Besides volleyball, Sean also enjoyed playing golf and basketball.
College Volleyball Star
After high school, Sean went to Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He studied business administration and graduated in 2005.
During his time playing college volleyball, Sean was a top player. He was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American four times. This means he was one of the best college players in the country. In 2005, he was even named the AVCA National Player of the Year.
Winning a National Championship
In 2005, Sean led his Pepperdine team to the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship. They played against UCLA in a very exciting match. Pepperdine won the game, which was a big deal because UCLA rarely lost at home in the NCAA tournament. Sean was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Final Four tournament.
Playing Professional Volleyball
After college, Sean played volleyball professionally around the world. From 2006 to 2007, he played for the Cheonan Hyundai Capital Skywalkers in the South Korean League. He was named the Most Valuable Player there and helped his team win two championships.
Later, he played for teams in Russia. In the 2007–08 season, he played for Dinamo-Yantar in Kaliningrad. In the 2008–09 season, he joined the Fakel Novy Urengoy volleyball club.
Beach Volleyball Fun
Sean also tried playing beach volleyball for a short time. He joined the AVP tour in 2005 and 2006. His best finish was fifth place, which he achieved three times.
Representing Team USA
Sean Rooney has been a very important player for the United States men's national volleyball team.
International Success
In 2008, Sean was named "Best Spiker" at the NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualifying tournament. This tournament helped the U.S. men's team qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Sean scored many points with his powerful spikes.
In 2007, he was named the Most Valuable Player in a match against Egypt at the FIVB World Cup. He scored 18 points, helping the United States win easily.
Olympic Gold Medalist
Sean made his first Olympic appearance at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He helped Team USA win a gold medal, which is the highest honor in sports! He also played for the U.S. Olympic team in 2012.
