Sebastian Ridley-Thomas is an American politician who served in the California State Assembly. He was born on August 12, 1987. As a member of the Democratic Party, he represented the 54th Assembly District. This district includes many communities in Los Angeles County, such as Culver City, Westwood, and Leimert Park.
He was first elected to this position on December 3, 2013. He took over the seat from Holly Mitchell, who had been elected to the California State Senate. Before becoming an Assembly member, he worked as an aide for former State Senator Curren Price. Sebastian Ridley-Thomas is also the son of Mark Ridley-Thomas, who was a well-known politician in Los Angeles for many years. He resigned from his position on December 31, 2017.
Early Life and Education
Sebastian Ridley-Thomas is the son of Avis Ridley-Thomas and Mark Ridley-Thomas. His father was a member of the Los Angeles City Council. Sebastian attended Morehouse College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Sociology is the study of how people live together in groups and societies.
Time in the California State Assembly
During his time in the California State Assembly, Sebastian Ridley-Thomas held important leadership roles. He was the chairperson for several committees. These included the Elections & Redistricting Committee and the Revenue & Taxation Committee. He also led the Select Committee on Mental Health.
