Shadow Lake is a beautiful lake located in the city of Kawartha Lakes in Ontario, Canada. It's a fun place to visit in Central Ontario. This lake is part of the larger Lake Ontario drainage basin. This means its water eventually flows into Lake Ontario.

Lake Facts

Shadow Lake is quite large, covering an area of about 356.8 hectares (882 acres). That's like 880 football fields! It sits at an elevation of 259 metres (850 ft) above sea level. The deepest part of the lake goes down to 22 metres (72 ft). That's as tall as a seven-story building!

Water Flow

The main river that flows into Shadow Lake is the Gull River. It enters the lake from the northwest, near the community of Norland. Most of the water in Shadow Lake comes from the Gull River. There are also three smaller streams that flow into the lake.

The Gull River also flows out of Shadow Lake from the south. As it leaves, the river passes through two areas with fast-moving water. These are known locally as "the chute." The Gull River then continues its journey to Silver Lake. After that, it flows to Balsam Lake. From Balsam Lake, the water travels through the main Kawartha Lakes chain. It then goes into the Otonabee River and the Trent River. Finally, it reaches the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario.

Fun on the Lake

Shadow Lake is a great spot for boating! You can boat upstream from Shadow Lake to a dam located in Norland. You can also boat downstream through Silver Lake to a dam in the community of Coboconk. However, be careful when the water levels are very low or very high. These conditions can make boating a bit tricky and even dangerous.
