Shireen Mehrunnisa Mazari (Urdu: شیریں مہر النساء مزاری) is a well-known Pakistani politician. She served as the Federal Minister for Human Rights from August 20, 2018, to April 10, 2022. She was also a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, which is like Pakistan's parliament. She was part of the National Assembly from 2013 to 2018 and again from 2018 to 2022.
Mazari studied at the London School of Economics and earned her PhD in political science from Columbia University. She also worked as a professor and led a department at Quaid-i-Azam University. Later, she became the head of the Institute of Strategic Studies.

Shireen Mazari is from the Baloch ethnic group. She completed her studies at the London School of Economics. She then went on to earn her PhD in political science from Columbia University.
Professional Career
Before entering politics, Shireen Mazari had an impressive career in academics and research.
Academic and Research Roles
She was an associate professor at Quaid-i-Azam University. She later became the chairperson of the university's Department of Defense and Strategic Studies. In 2002, Mazari became the head of the Institute of Strategic Studies, a government-funded research center. She held this position until 2008.
Media Work
In 2009, Mazari became the editor of The Nation, a newspaper in Pakistan. She also hosted a weekly television show on Waqt News.
Personal Life
Shireen Mazari is married to Tabish Aitbar Hazir. They have a daughter named Imaan Zainab Mazari Hazir and a son named Sabeel Hazir.
Political Journey
Shireen Mazari joined the PTI political party in 2008.
Joining and Rejoining PTI
In 2009, she became the Information Secretary and Spokesperson for PTI. She briefly left the party in 2012 due to some disagreements but rejoined in 2013.
Serving in the National Assembly
Mazari was first elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan in the 2013 Pakistani general election. She won a seat reserved for women from Punjab. She served as the chief whip for PTI in the National Assembly during this time.
She was re-elected to the National Assembly in the 2018 Pakistani general election, again on a seat reserved for women.
Minister for Human Rights
On August 18, 2018, Imran Khan announced his federal cabinet, and Shireen Mazari was named the Minister for Human Rights. She officially took her oath on August 20, 2018.
In January 2020, she spoke out against an attack on a temple in Karak by a group of people.
Retirement from Politics
On April 10, 2022, Shireen Mazari resigned from the National Assembly. This happened after a vote of no confidence against the government. Her resignation was accepted on July 28, 2022.
After facing several arrests and releases, Shireen Mazari announced her retirement from active politics on May 23, 2023. She stated personal reasons for her decision to leave the political field.
