Signy-Avenex is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Vaud, within the Nyon district.

History of Signy-Avenex
The area of Avenex was first written about in the year 926. It was called Avenaco back then. Signy was first mentioned a bit later, in 1018, and was known as Sigiciacum.
Geography and Location
Signy-Avenex covers an area of about 1.9 square kilometers (0.73 square miles). Most of this land, about 75%, is used for farming. A small part, about 2.6%, is covered by forests. The rest of the land, about 21.8%, has buildings and roads.
The town is nestled in a small valley. It sits just above the larger town of Nyon. Signy-Avenex is made up of two main parts: the linear village of Signy and the smaller hamlet of Avenex. A linear village is a village that grew along a road or river. A hamlet is a very small settlement, even smaller than a village.
