Siobhán Emma Donaghy (born 14 June 1984) is an English singer and songwriter. She is well-known as one of the original members of the popular girl group Sugababes.

Siobhán left Sugababes in 2001 to start her solo music career. She released her first solo album, Revolution in Me, in 2003. Her second album, Ghosts, came out in 2007 and was praised by music critics.

In 2012, Siobhán reunited with the other original Sugababes members, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan. For a while, they released music under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan. This was because their old management company still owned the Sugababes name. However, in 2019, they got the legal rights to the Sugababes name back.

Early Life

Siobhán Emma Donaghy was born on 14 June 1984 in Eastcote, London. Her parents are from Ireland. She has two sisters, Beibhinn and Róisín. Her sister Róisín works as her make-up artist.

Music Career

How Sugababes Started (1997–2001)

Siobhán signed her first music contract when she was 12 years old. She worked with music manager Ron Tom, who had also helped form the group All Saints. Siobhán said she loved singing but wasn't sure what she wanted to do at that age. Her mother supported her, but her father was worried about the music industry.

Soon after, Ron Tom also signed Mutya Buena. Siobhán and Mutya performed together. Mutya then invited her friend Keisha Buchanan to a recording session. Ron Tom suggested that the three girls form a band, and they became Sugababes.

Sugababes signed with London Records. Siobhán was 16 when their first song, "Overload", was released in 2000. The song was very popular and was nominated for a Brit Award. It sold over 231,000 copies in the UK. Their first album, One Touch, was also successful. It sold over 226,000 copies in the UK. The album included other popular songs like "New Year" and "Run for Cover".

During the tour for One Touch, there were some disagreements between Siobhán and the other members. Siobhán later said she felt "pushed out" of the group. She left Sugababes in August 2001 while they were on tour in Japan.

Solo Music and Break (2002–2009)

After leaving Sugababes, Siobhán started writing music. She worked with producer Cameron McVey. In March 2003, she released a song called "Nothing But Song" under the name Shanghai Nobody. She did not want to be known only as "the girl who left the Sugababes".

However, for her first official single, "Overrated", she used her own name again. "Overrated" reached No. 19 in the UK charts. Her next single, "Twist of Fate", was released in September 2003.

Siobhán's first solo album, Revolution in Me, came out in September 2003. She worked with Cameron McVey and Marlon Roudette on the album. Siobhán co-wrote all 12 songs on the album.

In 2005, Siobhán sang backing vocals for other artists, including Mattafix and Morcheeba.

Siobhán later left London Records. She recorded her second album independently. This album, Ghosts, was released in June 2007. It reached No. 92 in the UK charts. Siobhán said she wanted her music to be successful so she could keep making it. She described her music as "leftfield pop," which means it's a bit different from typical pop music.

In October 2007, Siobhán performed in the musical Rent in London's West End. She played the main role of Mimi. This was her first time performing in a West End show. From 2006 to 2011, she also worked as a model booker in London.

In 2009, Siobhán said she had no plans to release more solo albums for a while. She felt she needed a break from the music industry. However, later that year, she mentioned she was working on new music again.

Mutya Keisha Siobhan (2010–2016)

In 2010, there were reports that Mutya Buena was trying to get the legal rights to the Sugababes name. In 2011, news outlets reported that the original Sugababes line-up would reunite.

In January 2012, Mutya and Keisha posted on Twitter that they were in the studio with "two other females." Later, singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé confirmed she had written new songs for Mutya, Keisha, and Siobhán. In April 2012, it was reported that the group had signed a record deal.

In July 2012, it was officially confirmed that the group had reunited under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan. They were writing songs for a new album. They made their first public appearance together in 11 years at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony. In August 2012, Siobhán tweeted that the album was finished. She also said she was completely focused on Mutya Keisha Siobhan and had no interest in releasing more solo music. An album was planned for early 2017, but it was not released at that time.

Sugababes Reunion and Tours (2019–Present)

In February 2019, Mutya Buena confirmed that some demo songs had been leaked, which caused the album to be delayed. Siobhán also has a writing credit on the Bananarama song "Love in Stereo".

In August 2019, Siobhán, Mutya, and Keisha reunited to record a cover of "Flowers" by Sweet Female Attitude. They were credited as Sugababes, which was the first time Siobhán had performed under that name since 2001.

Since then, Sugababes have performed at many music festivals, including Mighty Hoopla and Glastonbury. They also supported Westlife and Take That on their tours.

On 3 June 2022, the 2013 single "Flatline" was re-released under the Sugababes name. Sugababes announced their first headlining tour in nine years on 23 June 2022.

In October 2022, the band released The Lost Tapes. This album included songs that had not been released before. In March 2023, Siobhán was a special guest on the 'Spinning Plates' podcast.

On 8 December 2023, a special 20th-anniversary edition of her solo album Revolution in Me was released.
