Skootamatta Lake is a beautiful lake located in Ontario, Canada. It is part of the larger Lake Ontario water system. You can find it in a place called Addington Highlands, which is in Lennox and Addington County.
The lake is about 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi) west of a small town called Cloyne. A famous spot, Bon Echo Provincial Park, is just north of the lake. The name Skootamatta is believed to come from the Ojibwa people. It might mean "burnt shoreline," which is pretty cool!

Exploring Skootamatta Lake
Skootamatta Lake is quite large and interesting to explore. It measures about 8.2 kilometres (5.1 mi) long and 6.1 kilometres (3.8 mi) wide. The lake sits at an elevation of 289 metres (948 ft) above sea level.
Bays and Islands
The lake has a special area in its northwest called Jacques' Bay. There are also two named islands in the lake. These are Bible Island and Blake Island. They add to the lake's natural beauty.
Water Flow and Rivers
The main river that flows into Skootamatta Lake is the Skootamatta River. This river enters the lake at its northeast side, bringing water from Pearson Lake. Other smaller creeks also flow into the lake from different directions.
The water then flows out of the lake through the same Skootamatta River. This happens at the southeast end of the lake. There is a special structure called the Skootamatta Dam there. This dam helps control the water level in the lake. It also helps manage water flow downstream, preventing floods and ensuring enough water during dry times. The Skootamatta River eventually joins the Moira River, which then flows into the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario.

Getting There
It's easy to get to the lake by car. There are two main roads that lead from Highway 41. One is Hughes Landing Road, which has a public boat ramp. This means you can easily launch your boat into the water. The other road is Jacques Bay Road.
Boating and Crown Land
Skootamatta Lake is special because it has a lot of "crown land" around it. Crown land is public land owned by the government. This means there are often fewer boats on the lake compared to other areas. This makes it a peaceful place for boating and enjoying nature.
