The Slate Range is a group of mountains located in the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, California. These mountains are found southwest of Death Valley and east of a town called Trona.

Where is the Slate Range?
The Slate Range mountains are located in a specific part of California. They are east of a large dry lake called Searles Lake. They are also next to another mountain range, the Argus Range. The southern part of the Slate Range connects to the end of the Panamint Range.
Special Areas in the Range
A part of the southern Slate Range is located inside a special area. This area is called the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. Because it's a special area, most people are not allowed to visit this part of the mountains.
Mountain Passes
Mountain passes are like natural doorways through mountains. They are lower areas that make it easier to travel from one side to the other.
- Manly Pass is found at the northern end of the Slate Range.
- Layton Pass is located at the southern end of the range.
