Smail Prevljak (born on May 10, 1995) is a professional footballer from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He plays as a forward for the Croatian Football League club Istra 1961.

Prevljak began his professional football journey at RB Leipzig in Germany. He mostly played for their reserve team. In 2014, he went on loan to Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. Later that year, he joined Liefering, which was a team connected to Red Bull Salzburg.

The next year, he joined Red Bull Salzburg permanently. Prevljak was loaned to Mattersburg in 2017. In 2020, he was loaned to Eupen in Belgium and then signed with them permanently. In 2023, he moved to Hertha BSC in Germany. In July 2025, he joined Istra 1961.

Smail Prevljak also played for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national youth team. He made his debut for the senior national team in 2018. He played more than 20 games for his country until 2023.

Football Journey

Starting Out

Prevljak started playing football at his local club, Igman Konjic. In 2013, he joined the youth academy of the German team RB Leipzig. He played his first professional game on August 2, 2014, when he was 19 years old. This match was against VfR Aalen.

Time at Red Bull Salzburg

In August 2014, Prevljak was loaned to the Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg for a season. He played his first official game for them on November 9 against Altach. On October 3, he scored his first professional goal. This happened while he was playing for Red Bull Salzburg's partner team, Liefering, in a win against Wacker Innsbruck.

In June 2015, he officially joined Red Bull Salzburg. On August 23, he scored his first goal for the main team against Austria Wien. Prevljak scored his first hat-trick (three goals in one game) on November 6 in a victory over FAC.

In April 2016, he had a serious knee injury. Doctors said it was an anterior cruciate ligament tear. This meant he could not play for at least six months. He returned to playing on February 24, 2017, more than ten months after his injury.

In June 2017, Prevljak was loaned to Mattersburg until the end of the season.

In June 2018, he signed a new four-year contract with Red Bull Salzburg. On December 16, he scored four goals in a game against St. Pölten. He won his first trophy with the club on May 1, 2019. They beat Rapid Wien in the Austrian Cup final.

Playing for Eupen

In January 2020, Prevljak was loaned for six months to Eupen, a team in Belgium. He played his first game for Eupen on February 8 against St. Truiden and scored a goal.

In August 2020, Eupen signed him permanently for three years.

He scored his first hat-trick for Eupen on April 17, 2021. This was in a win against Charleroi.

Time at Hertha BSC

In July 2023, Prevljak joined Hertha BSC in Germany. He signed a contract until June 2025. He played his first official game for Hertha on August 4 against Wehen Wiesbaden. On August 26, he scored his first goal for Hertha BSC in a win over Greuther Fürth.

Current Club

In July 2025, Prevljak moved to Istra 1961, a Croatian team.

International Games

Prevljak was part of the Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team.

In March 2018, he was called up to play for the senior national team for the first time. These were friendly matches against Bulgaria and Senegal. He played his first game for the senior team against Bulgaria on March 23.

On November 15, 2020, Prevljak scored his first goal for the senior national team. This was in a UEFA Nations League A match against the Netherlands.

Personal Life

Prevljak married his long-time girlfriend, Nejra, in March 2017. They have two sons named Sami and Kani.
