How South Shore Got Its Name
In 1893, George D. Winn asked for a post office to be set up. On July 21, a post office was opened and named "Fullerton." This name honored his brothers, Harvey and Harrison Fullerton. The town was officially made a city for a short time in 1919.
In 1895, the Taylor brickyard was built near Fullerton by Clyde King. This brickyard became the biggest employer in the area. The name "Taylor" was used for the local railway station. Later, a nearby post office was also named "Taylor" in 1930.
On February 4, 1940, this post office was renamed "South Shore." The city of South Shore was officially formed on July 2, 1957. Soon after, the Fullerton and South Shore post offices joined together under the "South Shore" name. Eventually, South Shore grew and took over the entire city of Fullerton, making its borders much larger.
