Where is St. Johnsbury Located?
The St. Johnsbury CDP is in the eastern part of Caledonia County. It covers the southern third of the town of St. Johnsbury. This area includes the main city center of St. Johnsbury. It also has the village of St. Johnsbury Center to the north, which is along the Passumpsic River. You'll also find development along Route 2 to the east, following the Moose River. However, it does not reach the village of East St. Johnsbury.
How to Get to St. Johnsbury
You can reach St. Johnsbury by several major roads.
Interstate Highways
- Interstate 91 runs through the western side of the CDP.
- You can get on or off I-91 at Exits 20, 21, and 22.
- If you go north on I-91, it's about 42 miles to Newport.
- If you go south, it's about 59 miles to White River.
U.S. Routes
- U.S. Route 2 and U.S. Route 5 meet in the center of St. Johnsbury.
- U.S. 2 goes west about 35 miles to Montpelier, which is the state capital.
- U.S. 2 also goes east about 28 miles to Lancaster, New Hampshire.
- U.S. 5 runs alongside I-91. It goes north about 8 miles to Lyndonville.
- U.S. 5 also goes south about 20 miles to Wells River.
