Stefan Logan (born June 2, 1981) is a former American football player. He was a running back and played on special teams. He played in both the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the National Football League (NFL). The Miami Dolphins signed him in 2007. He played college football at the University of South Dakota. Logan also played for the BC Lions, Montreal Alouettes, and Ottawa Redblacks in the CFL. In the NFL, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions.

Early Life and College Sports

Stefan Logan went to Miami Jackson High School in Miami, Florida. After high school, he took a three-year break from football. He then joined the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD.

Besides football, Logan was also a talented track runner in college. He set a conference record in the 60 meters race. His best time was 6.75 seconds. He also ran the 100 meters in 10.78 seconds.

College Football Journey

Logan joined the University of South Dakota football team in 2003. He became one of the best players in the school's history.

Making an Impact in 2003

In 2003, Logan started as a running back right away. He ran for 1,115 yards and scored 5 touchdowns. He was recognized as an NCC-Honoree for his great performance.

Sophomore Success in 2004

As a sophomore, Logan ran for 1,345 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also helped in the passing game with 179 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. He was an NCC-Honoree again. In track, he placed 7th at a national championship and was named a track All-American.

Junior Year Achievements in 2005

In his junior year, Logan rushed for 1,751 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also gained 428 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. He added 174 yards from returns. Logan was named an All-American for football. He was also an NCC-Honoree for the third year in a row.

Senior Year and Records in 2006

In his final year at the University of South Dakota, Logan ran for 1,707 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also had 153 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. His returning skills were strong, with 810 return yards and 2 return touchdowns. Logan was named an All-American for both football and track. He was also a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is like the Heisman Trophy for Division 2 football.

Logan left the University of South Dakota as their all-time leading rusher. He is 14th in Division 2 history for rushing yards. He is also one of only 10 Division 2 players to rush for over 1,000 yards in all four seasons.

In 2016, the University of South Dakota announced that Logan would be in their team's Hall of Fame. He was officially inducted in 2018.

Professional Football Career

Miami Dolphins (2007)

The Miami Dolphins signed Logan in 2007. He was not drafted by any team but joined his hometown team. However, he was released before the regular season began.

First Time with BC Lions (2008)

Logan then signed with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League for the 2008 CFL season. He ran for 889 yards and caught 52 passes for 477 yards. He scored three touchdowns.

Pittsburgh Steelers (2009)

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Logan to compete for a spot as a return specialist. He did very well in the preseason. In 2009, he broke the Steelers' record for most return yards in a single season. He was released by the Steelers in September 2010.

Detroit Lions (2010–2012)

The Detroit Lions signed Logan one day after he was released by the Steelers. In October 2010, he scored a touchdown on a 105-yard kickoff return. This tied a Lions team record. Logan was named a Pro Bowl alternate for the NFC during the 2010 NFL season.

Second Time with BC Lions (2013–2014)

Logan returned to the BC Lions in October 2013. In his first season back, he played in four games. He rushed for 236 yards and scored one touchdown. His 2014 season was even better. He played in 14 regular season games. He rushed for 625 yards and scored one touchdown. He also had 477 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He played 18 games over two seasons before being released in March 2015.

Montreal Alouettes (2015–2019)

In March 2015, Logan signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. While his offensive role changed, Logan became a full-time returner for punts and kickoffs. In 2018, he gained 12 yards on his only rushing attempt, which put him over 2,000 career rushing yards. He also scored a 74-yard punt return touchdown. He became one of only eight players in CFL history to get 10,000 total return yards in his career. The Alouettes released Logan in July 2019. He was later named to the all-decade Montreal team as a special teams player.

Ottawa Redblacks (2019)

In August 2019, Logan joined the Ottawa Redblacks (CFL). His first game with the Redblacks was his 100th career CFL game. Logan played in eight games for Ottawa as a returner. He increased his total CFL return yards to 11,970. He also moved into 2nd place in the CFL record books for career kickoff return yards.

Life After Playing Football

After the 2019 CFL season, Stefan Logan retired from playing football. He had played for 13 years in two leagues. He gained over 20,730 total yards in his career.

Logan then became a coach. He accepted the job of Running Backs Coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Lock Haven University.

Logan also hosts a podcast called "Less Talk Football" on Pro Sports Extra. He is also a professional cyclist.

Stefan Logan was married to Jennifer, who passed away in 2023. Stefan has used his platform to promote battling cancer.
