Stjepan Hauser, known as HAUSER, is a talented cellist from Croatia. He was born on June 15, 1986. He is famous for playing the cello and sometimes sings during his concerts. HAUSER was part of a popular duo called 2CELLOS with his friend Luka Šulić. Now, he also performs on his own as a solo artist.

HAUSER's Early Life and Music Training
HAUSER was born in Pula, Croatia. He grew up in a family that loved music. His mother plays percussion, and his sister is a journalist.
He started his music education early. HAUSER finished high school in Rijeka. He then studied music in Zagreb. Later, he moved to the United Kingdom to continue his studies. He learned from famous teachers like Natalia Pavlutskaya and Ralph Kirshbaum. He also studied with Bernard Greenhouse in the USA.
HAUSER's Amazing Music Career
HAUSER has performed in over 40 countries around the world. He has played in famous places like Wigmore Hall and Royal Albert Hall in London. He also performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
In 2006, HAUSER was chosen to play at a special event in Florence, Italy. This event honored a famous cellist named Mstislav Rostropovich. After this, HAUSER was invited to many music festivals in Europe. In 2009, he was part of a concert series called "New Masters on Tour." This series helps young artists perform in important concert halls.
In 2007, HAUSER played a piece called Kol Nidre with the Metropolitan Sinfonia. This was at a tribute concert for Mstislav Rostropovich. HAUSER has also recorded music as a solo artist. He recorded the First Concerto for Cello by British composer Christopher Ball. This piece was written just for him. The album, Christopher Ball: Music for Cello, was recorded live in 2010.
On June 11, 2009, HAUSER started his YouTube channel. By June 2024, his videos had been watched over 970 million times! In January 2011, HAUSER and his friend Luka Šulić played a cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" using only cellos. This music video quickly became a huge hit online.
His album Hauser Classic was released on February 7, 2020. On this album, he plays with the London Symphony Orchestra.
During the time when people had to stay home in 2020, HAUSER released three online performances. These were called Hauser: Alone Together. The first was from the Pula Arena in his hometown of Pula, Croatia. The second was at Krka National Park, near the Krka Waterfalls in Croatia. The third was recorded at Fort Lovrijenac in Dubrovnik, Croatia. This fort is famous from the TV show Game of Thrones. A special version of Hauser Classic was released in October 2020. It included a DVD of these three "Alone Together" videos.
The album Hauser plays Morricone was first shown on YouTube on October 27, 2020.
Working with Other Artists
HAUSER has worked with many famous cellists. These include Mstislav Rostropovich and Bernard Greenhouse.
In 2011, HAUSER recorded an album with Croatian singer Damir Urban. It was called Urban and Hauser. He also recorded an album with Croatian pop star Oliver Dragojević called Noć nek' tiho svira. They performed together in Pula that year.
In 2011, HAUSER and Luka Šulić started touring with the famous singer Elton John. They performed with his band hundreds of times around the world. This included shows in Las Vegas. In November 2011, HAUSER released another classical album. It was called Brahms, Beethoven & Bruch for Clarinet, Cello & Piano.
In 2018 and 2019, HAUSER released many videos with pianist Lola Astanova. They shared these videos on social media.
The Greenwich Trio
HAUSER was a member of a group called the Greenwich Trio. The other members were violinist Lana Trotovsek and pianist Yoko Misumi. This trio was called the "New Beaux Arts Trio" by cellist Bernard Greenhouse. The Greenwich Trio won many first prizes in music competitions in the UK, Belgium, and Italy. They also learned from many famous music groups and teachers. In March 2008, they played Beethoven's Triple Concerto.
2CELLOS
HAUSER and Šulić formed the duo 2CELLOS. They recorded an album with Sony Music Entertainment which came out in July 2011.
In January 2012, they were special musical guests on the TV show Glee. They performed "Smooth Criminal" in an episode honoring Michael Jackson. This was the first time an instrumental duo had been featured on the show. Their version of the song became very popular.
A second 2CELLOS album, In2ition, was released in late 2012 and early 2013.
After their second album, HAUSER spent several years touring. He toured either with 2CELLOS or with Elton John. A third album, Celloverse, was released in early 2015. This was just before a big tour across 38 cities in the US.
From 2014 to 2016, HAUSER performed with Oliver Dragojević several times. This included concerts in Rakalj and on Korčula. He also joined 2CELLOS' 5th anniversary concert in Zagreb in 2016. His last performance in Las Vegas with Elton John was in October 2015.
2CELLOS' fourth album, Score, came out in 2017. It was a collection of movie music recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra. Their first live performance of this album was in December 2016 in Sydney, Australia. Their fifth album, Let There Be Cello, was released in 2018.
After their 2019 US tour, the duo took a break. They wanted to work on their own solo classical albums.
Awards and Achievements
- HAUSER received the Ribbon of an Order of Danica Hrvatska. This award is for his special contribution to culture and for promoting Croatia around the world.
HAUSER has won many international music competitions and awards. He won the PLG Young Artists Auditions in 2009. He also won the J & A Beare Solo Bach Competition in 2009. He has won a total of 21 first prizes at national and international competitions. Because of his success, he was invited to perform twice for HRH Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace and St. James's Palace.
In May 2012, HAUSER won four Porin awards. Two were with Luka Šulić (2Cellos). The other two were for his work with Damir Urban on their album Urban & Hauser.
HAUSER later won another Porin award. This was for Best Video Release. He won it with Luka Šulić (2CELLOS) and Dušan Kranjc for their Arena Zagreb DVD.
