Stockleigh is a semi-rural area, meaning it's a mix of countryside and some developed parts. Most homes here are on large blocks of land, giving people lots of space.

A Look at Stockleigh's History
The name Stockleigh comes from a place in England. In 1863, a pioneer named Will Elworthy settled here. He named the area after his birthplace in Devon, England.
Farming and Dairy
For a long time, farmers in Stockleigh focused on dairy farming. They produced milk and cream. These products could be sent to a dairy factory in Kingston. This was made possible by the Maclean Bridge, which crosses the Logan River just west of Stockleigh.
Early Schools
Stockleigh had its own school for many years. The Stockleigh Provisional primary school first opened its doors in 1873. It later became known as Stockleigh State School in 1909. The school used different buildings over time before it finally closed in 1935.
Becoming Part of Logan City
Stockleigh used to be part of a different local government area called the Shire of Beaudesert. However, in March 2008, there were big changes to local government areas. Because of these changes, Stockleigh became part of Logan City.
