History of RAF Stradishall
Stradishall was once home to a very important Royal Air Force (RAF) airfield called RAF Stradishall. This airfield was used by the RAF from 1938 until 1970. It played a role in defending the country during its operational years.
What is there now?
Today, the land where the airfield used to be is used for two prisons. These are HMP Highpoint North and HMP Highpoint South. A prison is a place where people who have broken the law are kept.
Part of the old airfield is still used by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for training. This area is not open to the public. There is a special memorial outside Stirling House. This building was once where RAF officers lived. Now, it is a training center for people who work in prisons.
