Sulphide Creek is a small creek located in Ontario, Canada. It is part of the larger Moira River and Lake Ontario drainage basins. A drainage basin is like a big bowl where all the rain and snowmelt collect and flow into a main river or lake.
Sulphide Creek flows through two different areas: Tweed in Hastings County and Addington Highlands in Lennox and Addington County.
Where Sulphide Creek Starts and Ends
Sulphide Creek begins its journey in an unnamed lake. This lake is found in Addington Highlands, which is in Lennox and Addington County. The starting point is quite high up, about 209 meters (686 feet) above the sea. It's also about 600 meters (1,969 feet) south of Ontario Highway 7. The town of Actinolite is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) to the east-northeast.
The Creek's Journey
From its source, Sulphide Creek flows mostly towards the southwest. It quickly enters the area of Tweed in Hastings County. Along its path, the creek flows through several lakes. It also gets water from many smaller creeks that join it. These smaller creeks are called "tributaries."
The creek passes close to the communities of Hungerford and Otter Creek. It then reaches the community of Sulphide.
Reaching Stoco Lake
After passing Sulphide, the creek turns south. It finally reaches its end, which is called its "mouth." The mouth of Sulphide Creek is at Cosy Cove. Cosy Cove is a bay on the north side of Stoco Lake. A bay is a part of a lake or ocean that curves inward. There is also a community named Cosy Cove located right on this bay.
The elevation at the mouth of the creek is about 138 meters (453 feet) above sea level. From Stoco Lake, the water continues to flow into the Moira River. The Moira River then flows into the Bay of Quinte, which is in downtown Belleville.
