Super Punch-Out!! is an exciting boxing video game. It was made by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The game first came out in North America on September 14, 1994. It later arrived in Europe in 1995 and Japan in 1998.

This game is the fourth one in the popular Punch-Out!! series. It continues the story after the Punch-Out!! game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). You can also play Super Punch-Out!! on other systems. These include the Wii's Virtual Console and the New Nintendo 3DS eShop. Nintendo even re-released it for the Super NES Classic Edition in 2017.

In Super Punch-Out!!, you play as Little Mac. Your goal is to become the World Video Boxing Association champion. You fight opponents from a "behind the back" view. You must knock out your opponent in three minutes to win the match. The game was praised for its fun style and colorful characters.

How to Play Super Punch-Out!!

Playing Super Punch-Out!! is a lot like the earlier games in the series. You control a boxer, usually Little Mac. Your mission is to fight your way to become the W.V.B.A. Champion. You see your boxer from a third-person perspective. This means you look over their shoulder, and they appear see-through on the screen.

You can hit your opponents with jabs to the face or body blows. Opponents can block punches. So, you need to aim for their open spots. Different opponents guard themselves in unique ways. This means you need to choose the right punches to land a hit.

Powering Up Your Punches

Just like in the arcade games, you have a power meter. It's at the bottom of the screen. This meter fills up as you hit your opponent. It goes down when you get hit. When the meter is full, you can use powerful knockout punches. These include uppercuts, hooks, and fast punches.

These special punches take a moment to land. But they cause much more damage to your opponent. You can also build up power as the match goes on. You'll see the background color behind your boxer's face change. It goes from blue to green, then yellow, and finally red. When it turns red, you reach "Power-Up" status. This makes your punches faster and stronger. If you get knocked down, you lose this special status.

Avoiding Opponent Attacks

You can avoid attacks by dodging left or right. You can also duck under punches. However, you cannot punch while you are dodging or ducking. You also can't duck body blows. You can block attacks to the head or body. But you cannot block strong punches. You must dodge or duck to avoid those.

To win, you need to block, dodge, or duck at the right time. This helps you avoid your opponent's attacks. You can also hit back right after avoiding an attack. This is called a counter-punch.

Stamina and Knockouts

Both you and your opponent have stamina meters. These are shown at the top of the screen. The meters go down when a boxer gets hit. If a boxer's stamina runs out, they get knocked down. If you get knocked down quickly, you recover less stamina when you get up. The same happens if you are hit by a knockout punch.

A boxer loses if they can't get up before the referee counts to ten. This is called a knockout (KO). You also lose if you get knocked down three times in one match. This is called a technical knockout (TKO). When your opponent is down, you can press buttons on your controller to recover some of your own stamina.

Dizzy Opponents and Winning

There's a hidden "dizzy threshold" in the game. If you land many punches in a row, your opponent might get dizzy. A "dizzied" opponent looks shaky for a short time. The match timer even stops briefly. This is your chance to land a well-timed knockout punch. If you do, you might get an instant knockdown.

Each of the 16 opponents gets dizzy at different times. Some get dizzy faster than others. Some opponents can be knocked out with just one knockdown. But this only happens if you knock them down while they are dizzy. Other opponents need two knockdowns to be defeated. For these, you must get the second knockdown within four seconds of the first. Finally, some opponents must be defeated by a TKO. This means you need to knock them down three times.

You have three minutes to knock out your opponent. If time runs out, you lose the match. You cannot win by simply having more points. If you lose, you can use a continue to try again. If you run out of continues, the game ends. You then have to start the current circuit over.

The game has four circuits, or levels, to complete. You must become the champion of each one. You can always go back and replay any circuit you have already beaten. The game saves your progress and records. This lets you pick up where you left off.

In 2022, a secret two-player game mode was found. You can unlock it with a special button code. This works on all versions of the game without needing any hacks.

Game Development

Super Punch-Out!! was first released in North America in October 1994. It came out in Europe on January 26, 1995. It was later re-released in North America in 1996. In Japan, it was part of the Nintendo Power service in 1998. This service allowed players to download games onto special cartridges.

Electronic Arts also included the game as a bonus in Fight Night Round 2 for the GameCube. This was part of a deal to feature Nintendo characters in EA Sports games. Later, Super Punch-Out!! was released for the Wii's Virtual Console service. This happened in Europe and Australia in March 2009, and in North America and Japan later that month.

Super Punch-Out!! is the fourth game in the Punch-Out!! series. It was made by Nintendo Integrated Research and Development. Minoru Arakawa, Genyo Takeda, and Makoto Wada helped produce the game. The voice actor Charles Martinet was credited for voices in the game.

This game is very similar to the original Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!! arcade games. However, it's not an exact copy. Before the game was finished, some early pictures and videos were shown. These showed the main character looking a bit different. The announcer's voice was also different from the final version.

In 2016, a version of the game was released for the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.
