About Swan Lake

Swan Lake is not just any lake; it plays an important role in the local water system. It is where Woollings Creek flows into, bringing water from Meyers Lake. Swan Lake is also the starting point for the Whiteclay River.

Size and Location

The lake is quite long, stretching about 1.7 kilometers (1.1 miles). It is also about 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) wide. Most of Swan Lake is in an area called Maisonville Township. A smaller part, about one-third, is in Lee Township.

Water Flow and Connections

Water enters Swan Lake mainly from Woollings Creek. There are also a few smaller streams that flow into the lake from the northwest and west.

The water then leaves Swan Lake through the Whiteclay River. This river is like a highway for water! It connects to the Black River, which then flows into the Abitibi River. From there, the water travels to the Moose River and finally reaches James Bay. This whole journey is part of the larger James Bay drainage basin. A drainage basin is like a giant bowl where all the rain and melted snow collect and flow into one main river or lake.

Fun Activities at Swan Lake

If you visit Swan Lake, you might find a place to stay! On the east side of the lake, there is a private campsite and RV park. This spot is perfect for people who enjoy camping or traveling in RVs. It is easy to get to, as it is right off Ontario Highway 11.
