Säffle Municipality (Säffle kommun) is a local area in west-central Sweden. It is part of Värmland County. The main town, or "seat," of the municipality is Säffle.

Säffle became a city in 1951, being the last place in Sweden to get that title. In 1971, the current municipality was formed. This happened when the city of Säffle joined together with the smaller rural areas around it.

The municipality includes a large peninsula called Värmlandsnäs that reaches into Lake Vänern. It also has many small islands in the lake, forming a big fresh water archipelago.

Exploring Värmlandsnäs Peninsula

Värmlandsnäs, often called Näset, is a very important part of Säffle Municipality. This large peninsula stretches out into the middle of Lake Vänern. It is very important for the local economy, especially for producing pork. This area provides enough pork to feed more than 200,000 people.

Discovering the Millesvik Archipelago

Näset also has an archipelago on its eastern side. Boat enthusiasts often speak highly of the Millesvik Archipelago (Millesviks skärgård). This area is also home to many old runestones and other ancient monuments. These historical sites offer a glimpse into the past.

Island Adventures from Ekenäs Harbor

From Ekenäs harbor, you can take a fun tourist boat trip to Lurö. Lurö is a small island located in Lake Vänern. On Lurö, visitors can enjoy a meal and even stay overnight. It is a great spot for a short getaway.

Popular Swimming Spots in Lake Vänern

Many people who visit Värmlandsnäs in the summer love to swim in Lake Vänern. There are many excellent places to go for a swim. At Ekenäs, you will find a very nice bathing spot. From this place, you can almost walk all the way out to Lurö when the water is low. Other popular swimming spots include Ekôrn and the bathing place at Örud, which is near Örö harbor (Örö hamn).
