How Taco Time Started
Ron Fraedrick (who lived from 1928 to 2015) was the person who started Taco Time. He opened the very first restaurant in January 1960. It was in Eugene, Oregon, close to the University of Oregon, where he had studied.
Growing Across the Country
Just two years later, in 1962, the first Taco Time that someone else could own (called a franchise) opened. This new restaurant was in White Center, Washington. By the 1970s, Taco Time had grown a lot. There were 48 restaurants in seven different states in the Western United States.
In 1978, Taco Time opened its first restaurant outside of the United States. This international franchise was in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
Taco Time Northwest
In 1979, a special part of the company called Taco Time Northwest was created. This group got the rights to open and run Taco Time restaurants on their own. Their area includes western Washington, from Longview up to the Canadian border. They also operate in the eastern Washington cities of Wenatchee and Moses Lake.
Expanding Around the World
Taco Time has continued to grow over the years. Today, there are more than 300 Taco Time restaurants. You can find them in the United States, Canada, Kuwait, and the Netherlands Antilles (specifically Curaçao). In the 1990s, there were even some Taco Time locations in Greece!
In 2003, a company called Kahala Brands bought Taco Time. Kahala Brands is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
