Talant Dujshebaev (born June 2, 1968) is a famous former handball player. He is now a successful coach. Many people think he is one of the best handball coaches of his time. He played for four different national teams during his career. These teams were the Soviet Union, the Unified Team, Russia, and finally Spain. As a player, he usually played as a centre backcourt. After having great success coaching BM Ciudad Real, he has been coaching Industria Kielce for over a decade.

Talant's Early Life and Handball Journey

Talant Dujshebaev was born in the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic, which was part of the old Soviet Union. He started his handball career with CSKA Moscow. Interestingly, he began playing handball a bit later than most, at age 14. Before that, he was a swimmer!

Olympic Gold and World Championship Wins

In 1992, Talant played in the Olympic Games as part of the Unified Team. They won the gold medal! He was also the top scorer in those games, scoring 47 goals. He was even chosen for the tournament's "dream team." Just one year later, in 1993, he played in the World Championships with the Russian team and won another gold medal.

Playing for Spain and Olympic Medals

After the 1992 Olympics, Talant joined Teka Cantabria in Spain. A few years later, he became a Spanish citizen. He then played for the Spain men's national handball team for almost ten years. With Spain, he won two Olympic bronze medals in 1996 and 2000. He also earned silver and bronze medals at the European Championships. He was recognized as the best player in the world championships in 1997. However, he didn't win any world championship medals with Spain. When Spain finally won the world championship in 2005, Talant was no longer on the team.

Becoming a Coach and Big Wins

In 2001, after playing for some years in Germany, Talant returned to Spain. He joined BM Ciudad Real and finished his playing career there in 2007. In 2005, he started as a player-manager for the team. After he stopped playing, he became the full-time manager. As a coach, he led Ciudad Real to win the Liga ASOBAL many times. He also helped them win the EHF Champions League in 2006, 2008, and 2009.

Brief Return to Playing

In 2006, Talant briefly played again. This happened when one of Ciudad Real's main players, Uroš Zorman, got injured.

Top Player Awards

Talant was named the IHF World Player of the Year twice, in 1994 and 1996. He also came in second place in the voting for the IHF World Player of the Century. The only player ahead of him was Magnus Wislander from Sweden.

Coaching National Teams

In 2014, Talant became the head coach for PGE Vive Kielce. While coaching Kielce, he also coached the Hungarian men's national handball team from 2014 to 2016. Later, he coached Poland during the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2017 World Men's Handball Championship.

Family in Handball

Talant's sons, Alex Dujshebaev and Daniel Dujshebaev, are also handball players. They both joined their father at Kielce in 2017.
