Talossa, also known as the Kingdom of Talossa, is a very early micronation. A micronation is like a pretend country. It was started in 1979 by Robert Ben Madison, who was 14 years old. He lived in Milwaukee, USA.
At first, Talossa was just his bedroom! He chose the name "Talossa" because it means "inside the house" in Finnish. It's one of the oldest micronations still around today. It has been online since 1995. Being on the internet helped other online micronations start up too.
Talossa claims some places on Earth as its own land. This includes a part of Milwaukee, which they call the "Greater Talossan Area." But no real country or the United Nations agrees with these claims. As of 2016, Talossa had about 213 active citizens.
The current King of Talossa is John Wooley, also known as Ian Lupul. His children, Prince Patrick, Prince Peter, and Princess Daniele, are next in line to be king or queen.

How Talossa Started
Talossa began as a kingdom on December 26, 1979. Robert Madison started it shortly after his mother passed away. He kept Talossa going all through his teenage years. He even made a handwritten newspaper and designed a flag and emblem.
For a long time, only about a dozen of his family and friends were members. But in the mid-1990s, things changed. Stories about Talossa appeared in famous magazines like the New York Times and Wired. These stories made many people curious about his website.
Lots of new "citizens" joined Talossa after that. Robert Madison even said he invented the word "micronation." In 1996, he restarted the League of Secessionist States. This was a group for different micronations. It became the most important online group for micronations for several years.
Robert Madison stopped being involved with the "kingdom" in late 2005. But Talossa is still active today, even without its original founder.
Talossan Culture
Over the years, Robert Madison and other fans have created a unique Talossan culture. This includes their own language.

Robert Madison created the Talossan language in 1980. It is a constructed language, meaning it was made up, not developed naturally. It has a very large vocabulary, with about 35,000 main words. Many of its words come from French.
The language even has a word called fieschada. This word means "love at first sight". The Talossan language is known for being one of the most detailed made-up languages ever.
A group called the Comità per l'Útzil del Glheþ (which means "Committee for the Use of the Language") looks after the language. This group makes rules and updates for the language. They also add new words to its vocabulary.
Writing in Talossan
Talossan uses the Latin alphabet, which is the same alphabet English uses. But it has some special letters too.
