Terry Moore (born Helen Luella Koford on January 7, 1929) is an American actress. She started her acting journey as a child. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie Come Back, Little Sheba (1952).

Terry Moore's Early Life and Career

Becoming a Child Star

Terry Moore was born on January 7, 1929, in Glendale, California. She grew up in Los Angeles with her family.

She began acting at a young age. Some of her first movies include The Howards of Virginia (1940) and My Gal Sal (1942). She also appeared in Gaslight (1944), playing a younger version of the main character.

Terry also worked in radio during the 1940s. She was known for her role as Bumps Smith on a show called The Smiths of Hollywood.

Big Roles with Columbia Pictures

Terry Moore's acting career really took off when Columbia Pictures signed her to a long contract. She got a main role in The Return of October (1948). In this movie, she played a character named Terry Ramsey. After this, she decided to use "Terry" as her stage name.

One of her most famous early roles was in Mighty Joe Young (1949). This film was about a giant gorilla and won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. She also starred with Jimmy Durante in The Great Rupert (1950).

Terry Moore also had a long relationship with businessman Howard Hughes. She stated that they had a private marriage ceremony in 1949. Although they separated, she said they never officially divorced. After Howard Hughes passed away, Terry Moore reached a financial agreement with his family.
