How The 7D Was Made
Making an animated show like The 7D takes a lot of work!
Animation Style
The show was first planned for the Disney Junior channel. The characters were redesigned by Noah Z. Jones. The first test episode was made using a computer animation style called Flash. However, the creators decided to switch to traditional 2D animation for the series. This made the show look even better and fit its style perfectly. The storyboards and early designs were done at Disney, while the animation itself was created by studios in Korea and the Philippines.
Music and Songs
The catchy theme song and many of the songs in the episodes were created by Parry Gripp. He described the theme song as having a "punk rock style" with fast guitars. Gripp wrote about 120 songs for the first season alone, and they all had different styles! The show's music was also orchestrated by composer Keith Horn.
Voice Acting Talent
The show features many talented voice actors. Some of the cast and crew had previously worked on famous cartoon shows like Animaniacs. For example, Maurice LaMarche (Grumpy) voiced Brain, and Jess Harnell (Grim Gloom) voiced Wakko in Animaniacs. The voice actors often recorded their lines together in groups of two to four characters. This helped them sound more natural and interactive.
Setting the Story
The creators decided that The 7D takes place before Snow White was born. This means you won't see the Evil Queen from the classic movie. The show also has a modern feel, with characters who understand today's pop culture.
Where The 7D Was Shown
The 7D first aired in the United States on Disney XD on July 7, 2014. It also appeared on the Disney Junior block on Disney Channel and later on the dedicated Disney Junior channel.
The show was popular around the world. It started broadcasting in Canada on July 13 and in Southeast Asia on September 7. Australian fans could watch it on Disney XD starting December 1.
The series was so well-liked that it was renewed for a second season on December 2, 2014. The second season premiered on Disney XD on January 23, 2016. It even featured some famous guest stars like Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne playing Hildy's parents, and other stars like Fran Drescher and "Weird Al" Yankovic. The show finished its run with the final episode airing on November 5, 2016.
Fun Video Games
You can also play games based on The 7D!
The 7D Mine Train
In June 2014, Disney Publishing Worldwide released a video game called "The 7D Mine Train". It's an endless-runner game where you pick one of the 7D dwarfs and drive a mine car through different levels. Your goal is to collect gems along the way. This game was inspired by the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride at Walt Disney World.
The 7D Dwarf Track Builder
Disney also created an online game for their Disney XD website called "The 7D Dwarf Track Builder". In this game, players can build their own mine tracks or sky bucket courses. You follow the dwarfs' instructions to create the perfect path!
