The Girl from Tomorrow is an exciting Australian science fiction TV show for kids. It was made by Film Australia. The story is about a girl named Alana (Katharine Cullen) who comes from the year 3000.

At the start of the series, a bad guy named Silverthorn from the year 2500 kidnaps Alana. He takes her back in time to the year 1990. In 1990, Alana meets a girl named Jenny (Melissa Marshall). Jenny helps Alana get used to this strange new time. She also helps Alana try to get back to her own time.

A second series, called The Girl from Tomorrow Part II: Tomorrow's End, came out in 1992.

What is The Girl from Tomorrow About?

In the year 3000, people live in a perfect world. Their main goal is to rebuild Earth after a huge disaster. This event, called The Great Disaster, happened in the year 2500. It almost destroyed the whole Earth.

To find out what caused it, a scientist named Tulista travels to the past. She uses a special machine called the Time Capsule. When the capsule returns, Tulista is captured by Silverthorn. He is a criminal from the year 2500 who wants to take over the future.

Silverthorn realizes his old weapons are no match for the future's advanced tools. So, he takes Alana, Tulista's student, as a hostage. He escapes to the year 1990, thinking he'll have a better chance there.

Alana escapes in 1990 and meets a teenager named Jenny Kelly. Alana needs Jenny's help to get back to the Time Capsule. The capsule will automatically return to the future, and Alana doesn't want to be stuck in the past.

They soon find out that Silverthorn has taken the Time Capsule. He is using its computer to get rich by betting on horse races. He won't let Alana use it to go home. With help from Jenny's family and her teacher, Alana and Jenny must get the capsule back. They also need to stop Silverthorn's evil plans.

Meet the Characters

Alana

Alana (Katharine Cullen) is a 14-year-old girl from the year 3000. Her parents live on Titan, one of Saturn's moons. They sent her to Earth for her education. On Earth, she learns how to use a special tool called the Transducer. She wants to become a healer.

Alana has three small dots on the side of her face near her temple. These dots show that she is old enough to use a Transducer. When she arrives in 1990, the Kelly family takes her in. To avoid questions, they call her 'Alana Turner' and say she is Irene's niece.

Silverthorn

Silverthorn (John Howard) is the main bad guy from the year 2500. He is very tricky and can be violent. He often acts charming, but it's just a trick to fool people. He is also very brave. For example, he saved a drowning boy to gain trust.

He kidnaps Alana and goes to 1990, hoping to rule the world. In 1990, Silverthorn uses the Time Capsule's computer to find out horse race winners. He bets on them and becomes a millionaire. He buys a big house and a fancy limousine. He also starts a fake business called Futures Incorporated.

Silverthorn has a serious brain problem from radiation in his own time. He gets bad headaches and sometimes collapses. The special pills he brought from 2500 are running out. He can't get more because they contain elements not yet discovered in 1990. His only hope is Alana and her Transducer.

Eddie

Eddie (Miles Buchanan) is a young, tough guy who works for Silverthorn. He drives Silverthorn's car and helps him with his plans. Eddie isn't very smart and can be clumsy. Silverthorn often gets angry with him but keeps him around because he's useful. In the second series, Eddie admits he doesn't even have a driving license!

Jenny Kelly

Jenny (Melissa Marshall) is a typical teenager from 1990. She is going through a rebellious phase. She has purple hair and loves to play the drums. She dreams of joining a band. When she's not at school, she helps her mum at their deli. Jenny doesn't like living in Sydney, but things get exciting when Alana arrives.

Petey Kelly

Petey (James Findlay) is Jenny's nine-year-old brother from 1990. He loves to dress up in his homemade superhero costume. He calls himself "Captain Zero." Petey also loves science fiction, which helps a lot when things get tough.

Irene Kelly

Irene (Helen O'Connor) is Jenny and Petey's mother. She owns the Kelly Deli. Like most mums, she is very protective of her children. She is even brave enough to stand up to Silverthorn by herself to keep them safe.

James Rooney

James (Andrew Clarke) is the science teacher at Jenny's high school. Irene liked him when she met him after enrolling Alana there. James helps everyone try to get the Time Capsule back so Alana can return home.

Future Technology

In The Girl from Tomorrow, we see cool gadgets from the future.

Technology from the Year 2500

The main weapon used in the year 2500 is the laser pistol. When you hold the trigger, energy builds up in an object. When you let go, the object explodes!

Technology from the Year 3000

In the year 3000, all science experiments happen in the Science Dome. Inside, there's a Time Laboratory where time travel experiments take place. Here are some important technologies from the future:

The Time Capsule

The Time Capsule is a vehicle for exploring time. A scientist named Bruno invented it in the year 3000. The Capsule is about 1.7 meters tall and wide. It looks like a dark green steel frame with clear panels. Inside, one person can sit, but it can hold more. It has a very advanced computer system. This computer stores all the history and knowledge from before The Great Disaster.

The Time Capsule's computer also understands voice commands. When you tell it where and when to go, it starts to spin. It gets energy from special generators. A blue, sparkly energy field forms around it. Then, it glows yellow and flashes away to the chosen time. When it arrives, it's usually covered in soot. The Time Capsule only stays in the past for 28 days unless told otherwise.

Bruno created the Time Capsule so people in 3000 could learn what caused The Great Disaster. This event almost destroyed Earth.

Personal Computer Companion

In the year 3000, everyone has a Computer Companion. It's a tiny computer worn on the wrist. It has artificial intelligence and can do many things. It tells time and gives advice. It can also record and play holograms.

Companions for children also teach good manners. They won't follow commands if you're not polite! This advanced computer can connect with other computers and electronic devices.

The Transducer

The Transducer is a tool used by everyone in the year 3000. Alana was still learning how to use it when Silverthorn kidnapped her. The Transducer looks like a headband with a crystal in the middle.

The Transducer from the year 3000 can create different colored energy:

  • Blue is for making objects float.
  • Pink is for healing.
  • Purple is for interacting with other force fields.
  • Red energy appears from strong feelings and can destroy things.

The first Transducer was invented in the year 2500 by a woman named Maeve. She made it for healing. After The Great Disaster, many Transducers were made. People learned to use them to rebuild the planet. A copy of the first Transducer is kept in the Science Dome in the year 3000.

The Transducer works by making the pituitary gland stronger. This helps the user float objects and heal wounds. But if used wrongly, it can be a weapon. That's why people in the year 3000 learn to control their feelings from a young age.
