Story of The Star
The movie begins nine months before Christmas. An angel visits Mary and tells her she will have a very special baby. A tiny mouse-like animal called Abby overhears this exciting news. She tells all the other animals as a bright star starts shining in the sky.
Bo's Journey Begins
Six months later, we meet Bo, a young donkey. He is tired of his job at the mill and dreams of joining a royal caravan. He wants to feel important! An older donkey helps Bo escape. Bo then hurts his ankle and ends up at the home of Joseph and Mary. They have just gotten married. Mary is kind and takes Bo in, naming him. She also tells Joseph that she is pregnant. Joseph accepts this news after praying. Bo and his dove friend, Dave, plan to escape, but Mary's kindness makes them stay for three more months.
The Wise Men and King Herod
Meanwhile, three wise men and their camels (Felix, Cyrus, and Deborah) arrive at King Herod's palace. They tell him they are looking for a "new King." Herod pretends to be helpful but secretly sends his hunter and two dogs, Thaddeus and Rufus, to find and kill this new King.
Warning Mary and Joseph
As Joseph and Mary leave Nazareth for Bethlehem, Bo and Dave try to escape again. But they run into the hunter's dogs, who found out about Mary and Joseph from Abby. The hunter and his dogs leave to find them. Feeling bad, Bo decides to warn Mary and Joseph. Dave joins him. On their way, they meet Ruth, a friendly sheep who left her flock to follow the bright star.
They catch up to Mary and Joseph and warn them. They hide in a busy market. Bo causes a big accident to stop the hunter, but he also makes a mess. Joseph, not knowing about the danger, scolds Bo.
New Friends and New Dangers
Upset, Bo leaves, and Dave follows him to the royal caravan. But Bo realizes he misses being with Mary. He tells Dave, who just wants Bo to be happy. They decide to go back and make up with Ruth. They also convince Joseph to talk to Mary. Mary shares that she is scared about having such an important baby. They make up just as Mary starts having contractions.
They arrive in Bethlehem, but Joseph cannot find a place for Mary to stay. The miller, Bo's old owner, kidnaps Bo! Dave and Ruth go to rescue him. The wise men also arrive, but their camels, who know about Herod's plan, are tied up.
The Stable and the Savior
Bo ends up in a stable. He meets a horse named Leah, a cow named Edith, and a goat named Zach. They tell him they haven't been able to sleep because the bright star has been shining on their manger for nine months. Bo realizes this is where the special baby is meant to be!
The animals help Bo escape. He finds Dave and Ruth and sees the hunter and his dogs. Bo leads Joseph and Mary back to the stable. Dave finds the camels and helps them get free. Ruth finds her sheep flock and tries to get them to help. An angel then appears and tells the shepherds and sheep that the Savior is coming!
Bo fights off the hunter's dogs, Thaddeus and Rufus. But the hunter is too strong. Suddenly, Ruth and her flock, the camels, and Dave arrive! They make the hunter and his dogs hang from a cliff. The hunter lets his dogs fall, but Bo saves them. The hunter falls away.
All the animals, including Abby and the now-good Thaddeus and Rufus, along with the shepherds and wise men, arrive to see baby Jesus. Bo realizes he has been carrying the new King all along! Deborah the camel says this event will be remembered forever. Joseph then buys Bo from the miller. Bo and Dave help Joseph and Mary raise Jesus.
