Tibetan people facts for kids
The Tibetan people are a group of people who originally come from Tibet. About 7.8 million Tibetans live around the world. In 2014, most of them lived in Tibet and other areas of China. These areas are called Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures. You can find them in Gansu, Qinghai, and Sichuan. Many Tibetans also live outside China. They live in countries like India, Nepal, and Bhutan.
Tibetan Languages
Tibetans speak languages from the Tibetic languages family. There are many different Tibetic languages. Sometimes, people speaking one Tibetic language cannot understand another. These languages are also spoken by people in places like Baltistan, Ladakh, Nepal, Sikkim, and Bhutan. The main language for Tibetans in Tibet is the Central Tibetan language.
Tibetan Religions
Most Tibetan people follow Tibetan Buddhism. This is a special kind of Buddhism. Some Tibetans practice an older religion called Bön. There is also a small group of Muslims among the Tibetan people.
