Tilde de Paula Díaz was born in Chile in 1972. Her father was a politician from Brazil who had to leave his home country because he was in danger. He met Tilde's mother in Cuba, and they moved to Chile.

However, in 1973, there was a military coup in Chile. This meant they had to leave Chile too. With help from a diplomat named Harald Edelstam and the Swedish embassy, Tilde's family moved to Sweden. Tilde has an older brother named Andes. Before becoming a TV presenter, Tilde studied journalism.
