Tim Wiese's Football Journey
Playing for Clubs
Starting at Fortuna Köln
Tim Wiese began playing football in 1987 at DJK Dürscheid. Two years later, he moved to Bayer Leverkusen's youth system. His first professional team was Fortuna Köln. He made his first-team debut there in 2000.
Time at 1. FC Kaiserslautern
In 2001, Wiese joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern, a team in the top German league, the Bundesliga. He first played for their reserve team. Soon, he became the main goalkeeper for the first team. He was seen as a very promising young goalkeeper. He played for Kaiserslautern until late 2004.
Playing for Werder Bremen

Tim Wiese moved to Werder Bremen in 2005. He was expected to become their new main goalkeeper. However, he had two serious knee injuries and missed the first half of the season. He finally made his debut for Werder Bremen in February 2006. He then became their regular goalkeeper.
Early on, he made a mistake in a game against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League. This mistake led to a goal that caused Bremen to lose. But he quickly improved and became a very important player for the team. In 2009, he helped Werder Bremen reach the German Cup final. He saved three penalties in a row in the semi-final match.
Moving to 1899 Hoffenheim
On May 2, 2012, Wiese signed with 1899 Hoffenheim. He was made the team captain in August. The team had a tough start to the season, and Wiese let in many goals. In November 2012, he injured his knee.
Later, he was removed from the team. His contract with Hoffenheim ended on January 21, 2014. This happened because his body had changed in a way that was not suited for professional football anymore. He had made ten appearances for Hoffenheim.
Playing for Germany
Tim Wiese played his first game for the German national team on November 19, 2008. He came into the game against England as a substitute.
He was part of Germany's team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not play in any matches during that tournament. He was the backup goalkeeper.
Retiring from Football
