Tolleshunt Knights is a small village located in the county of Essex, England. It is also a civil parish, which means it has its own local government area.
About Tolleshunt Knights
Tolleshunt Knights is part of the Maldon District Council area. It shares borders with several other places. These include Tiptree, Layer Marney, and Salcott cum Virley. These villages are part of the Colchester Borough Council's area. Tolleshunt Knights also borders Tolleshunt D'Arcy, which is also in the Maldon District.
Local Government
The village has its own Parish Council. This council helps make decisions about local matters. Before 1934, a large part of the Tiptree Heath area was actually within the borders of Tolleshunt Knights. This changed when the Tiptree Parish Council was created.
Important Places
Tolleshunt Knights is home to a special place called the Patriarchal Stavropegic Monastery of St. John the Baptist. This is an Orthodox monastery. It was started in 1958 by a religious leader named Archimandrite Sophrony. The village also has a community building called a village hall.
Village History
For many years, from 1904 to 1951, Tolleshunt Knights had a small train station. This station was part of the Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway. It helped people travel to and from the village.
Some interesting families have lived in Tolleshunt Knights. One of these is the Cottee Family. They have lived in this small village and nearby Tiptree for over 400 years. The family originally came from France. They later changed their last name from Lescot to the more English-sounding Cottee.
