Many kinds of seabirds live along the coast. You might also spot grey seals and dolphins swimming in the water. The village gets its name from a small river called the Saith. A Look Back: Tresaith's History
How Tresaith Grew
A long time ago, in the mid-1800s, Tresaith was very small. It only had two buildings: a cottage with a straw roof and a pub called the Ship Inn. The Parry family, who owned ships, ran the inn.
Their first ship, named the New Hope, was built right on the beach in 1827. Later, several small ships called smacks used Tresaith as their home port. These ships were about 25 tons in size. They brought important things like coal, limestone, and a type of coal dust called culm to the village.
Tresaith Becomes a Holiday Spot
Towards the end of the 1800s, Tresaith started to become a popular place for holidays by the sea. People loved coming here for their vacations. Newspapers from that time even called it the Second Brighton. This shows how popular it became, like the famous seaside town of Brighton in England.
Fun Things to Do in Tresaith
Enjoy the Beach
Tresaith has a fantastic beach that has won awards. It's a European Blue Flag beach, which means it's very clean and safe. In 2012, it also received a Seaside Award. During busy times of the year, lifeguards are usually on duty to keep everyone safe. The beach is also a great spot for surfing if you enjoy catching waves!
Spotting Dolphins
If you visit in the summer, you might be lucky enough to see dolphins almost every day! Cardigan Bay, where Tresaith is located, is home to a group of bottle-nosed dolphins. These smart creatures often swim close to the shore.
The Famous Waterfall
One of the most special sights in Tresaith is the Waterfall. This is where the River Saith, which gives the village its name, flows over the cliffs. It then crashes down into the sea below. It's a beautiful and unique natural feature.
Sailing Adventures
Tresaith has an active sailing club called the "Tresaith Mariners." They have many different types of boats, including small dinghies and faster catamarans. If you like sailing, this club offers a great way to get out on the water.
