William Trevor Lawrence (born October 6, 1999) is an American professional football quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the National Football League (NFL). He was considered one of the best young football players coming out of college. As a freshman, he led the Clemson Tigers to win the 2019 National Championship Game. He also set a school record for quarterback wins.
The Jaguars picked Lawrence as the first overall player in the 2021 NFL draft. In 2022, he had a fantastic season. He helped the Jaguars win their first division title and playoff game since 2017.

Trevor Lawrence's Early Life and High School Football
Trevor Lawrence was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on October 6, 1999. He grew up in Cartersville, Georgia, and went to Cartersville High School. There, he played both football and basketball.
As a junior in 2016, he was named player of the year by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He threw for 3,904 yards and 51 touchdowns. In his sophomore year, he had 3,655 yards and 43 touchdowns. As a freshman, he threw for 3,042 yards and 26 touchdowns.
From his sophomore to senior year, Lawrence led his team, the Purple Hurricanes, to 41 wins in a row. They won two state championships and four region titles. He also received many national awards for high school players. In 2017, Lawrence broke the Georgia state records for passing yards and passing touchdowns. These records were previously held by Deshaun Watson, who also played for Clemson.
Many experts thought Lawrence was one of the best high school quarterback prospects ever. On December 16, 2016, he decided to play college football for Clemson University.
Trevor Lawrence's College Football Career
Freshman Year: Winning a National Championship
Trevor Lawrence started his freshman season as the backup quarterback for Clemson. However, he played equally in the first few games. After four games, head coach Dabo Swinney made Lawrence the starting quarterback. The previous starter, Kelly Bryant, then decided to transfer.
Lawrence led the Clemson Tigers to an undefeated regular season. They won the ACC Championship Game against Pittsburgh 42–10. Clemson then made it to the College Football Playoff. They were ranked No. 2 and beat Notre Dame 30–3 in the 2018 Cotton Bowl Classic.
Clemson then played in the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship game. They defeated Alabama 44–16, which was Alabama's biggest loss under coach Nick Saban. Lawrence was named the Offensive MVP of the game. He became the first freshman quarterback to start for a national champion since 1985.
For the season, Lawrence threw for 3,280 passing yards and 30 touchdowns. He won the National Freshman of the Year and Archie Griffin Award. He also earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors.
Sophomore Year: Another Championship Appearance
When Lawrence returned for his sophomore year, he was named the preseason ACC Player of the Year. Many thought he would be a top candidate for the Heisman Trophy. He had some ups and downs early in the season, which affected his Heisman chances. However, he played very well in the second half of the season. He finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Lawrence helped Clemson have another undefeated regular season. They won the ACC Championship Game against Virginia. This earned them the No. 3 ranking in the College Football Playoff. Junior Year: Top Draft Prospect
Lawrence returned for his junior season with the Tigers. In his first six games, he threw for 1,833 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and only two interceptions. In October 2020, Lawrence tested positive for COVID-19. He had to miss two games because of this. Clemson lost one of those games to Notre Dame.
After he returned, Lawrence helped the Tigers get back to the ACC Championship Game. They beat Notre Dame in a rematch for the conference title. Clemson then earned a spot in the College Football Playoff. In the semi-final game, the Sugar Bowl, Lawrence and the Tigers lost to Ohio State.

Trevor Lawrence's Professional NFL Career
Becoming a Top NFL Draft Pick
Before the 2021 NFL draft, Trevor Lawrence was almost certain to be picked first overall. Many experts compared him to famous quarterbacks like John Elway, Peyton Manning, and Andrew Luck. Fans of struggling teams even used the slogan "Tank for Trevor" hoping their team would get him. ESPN expert Mel Kiper Jr. said Lawrence was one of the best quarterback prospects he had ever seen.
2021 Season: Rookie Year with the Jaguars
After having surgery on his left shoulder, Lawrence was officially chosen first overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars had the worst record in the league the season before. On July 5, 2021, he signed his first NFL contract, which was for four years and worth $36.8 million.
Before the last week of preseason, Lawrence was named the Jaguars' starting quarterback. In his first NFL game against the Houston Texans, he threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns. However, he also threw three interceptions, and the Jaguars lost 37–21. This was Lawrence's first loss in a regular season game.
Lawrence won his first NFL game in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins. He threw for 319 yards and a touchdown in the 23–20 victory. This game was played in London, making him the first NFL rookie to win there. This win also ended the Jaguars' 20-game losing streak.
Lawrence finished his rookie season with 3,641 passing yards. He was second among rookies in passing yards. However, he also had a league-high 17 interceptions.
2022 Season: Leading the Jaguars to the Playoffs
After losing the first game of the season, Lawrence led the Jaguars to wins against the Colts and Los Angeles Chargers. He threw for a total of 497 yards and five touchdowns in those two games. The win against the Chargers was his first road victory. He was also named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
The Jaguars then had a five-game losing streak. But they turned things around with a Week 9 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Lawrence helped Jacksonville come back from a 20–10 halftime deficit to win 27–20.
This Week 9 win started a great run for the Jaguars. They won seven of their last nine games. During this time, Lawrence threw for 2,273 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. He led a game-winning drive against the Baltimore Ravens and helped the team come back from 17 points down to beat the Dallas Cowboys. Lawrence was also named AFC Player of the Week in Week 14.
In the final game of the season, against the Tennessee Titans, Lawrence led the Jaguars to a 20–16 victory. This win clinched the Jaguars' first division title since 2017.
In the Wild Card round against the Chargers, Lawrence threw four interceptions in the first half. But he made an amazing comeback, throwing a touchdown before halftime and three more in the second half. The Jaguars won 31–30, making it the third-largest comeback in NFL history. The next week, the Jaguars lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 27–20 in the Divisional Round.
Lawrence finished the 2022 season with much better numbers: 4,113 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He was named an alternate for the 2023 Pro Bowl. He was the first Jaguars quarterback to get Pro Bowl honors since 2009.
2023 Season: Dealing with Injuries

In the first game of the 2023 season, Lawrence led the Jaguars to a 31–21 victory over the Colts. He threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns. In Week 4, playing in London, Lawrence helped the Jaguars beat the Atlanta Falcons 23–7. The next week, also in London, he led them to a 25–20 win over the Bills.
In Week 6, back in Jacksonville, Lawrence threw two touchdowns in a 37–20 win against the Colts. He left that game with a sprained left knee. Despite the injury, he played the following week and helped the Jaguars win against the New Orleans Saints.
After a break week, Lawrence had a tough game against the San Francisco 49ers. But he bounced back strong against the Titans, throwing two touchdowns and running for two more in a 34–14 victory. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for this performance.

Trevor Lawrence's Personal Life
Trevor Lawrence is Baptist. He is known for his long blond hair. His older brother, Chase, is an artist, and Trevor has posed for him. On April 10, 2021, Lawrence married Marissa Mowry. They had been dating since high school. In June 2024, the couple shared that they were expecting their first child.
