Early Life and Music Start
Trials was born to a Welsh mother and a Ngarrindjeri father. When he was three, his parents separated. He moved to the south of Wales with his mother. During this time, he experienced racism because he was a Black child in a mostly white school.
He returned to Australia when he was 12 years old.
When he was 16, in the late 1990s, Trials was in a car accident. He used the money he received from the accident to buy music equipment. This included turntables, a computer, and a microphone. This is how he started his journey into music.
Music Career Highlights
Trials began his music career at 16. He formed a hip-hop group called Funkoars with Adam Baker (Sesta) and Matt Honson (Hons). The group released their first album, Who's Your Step Daddy, in 2003. While they are still friends, Funkoars stopped performing and making music together around 2014.
After Funkoars, Trials started working with his friend Briggs. They began creating songs that would become the foundation for their famous group, A.B. Original.
Solo Music and Production
In 2020, Trials released his first solo song, 'I'm a wreck'. The song features honest and personal lyrics. He worked on this track with US rapper Daniyel.
Trials has also produced and composed music for movies and TV shows. His work can be heard in programs like Cleverman, Looky Looky – Here Comes Cooky, Cargo (on Netflix), and The Warriors.
His music has also been used in advertisements. These include ads for MMA, the NBL, and the NBA. His music has also appeared in fighting and surfing documentaries.
A.B. Original Success
Trials met rapper Briggs in the early 2000s at a Funkoars concert. Soon after, Briggs moved into Trials' house. They then formed the highly praised hip-hop group A.B. Original.
A.B. Original received an APRA Award in 2018. They were honored with the Songwriter Of The Year award.
