Discovering Trophy Club's Past
Trophy Club's story began in 1847. Charles and Matilda Medlin, along with twenty other families, moved from Missouri. They settled in a busy Texas town called Elizabethtown. These families were part of the Peter's Colony. This group of settlers came to Texas in the 1800s. They hoped to get land grants.
The families stayed in Elizabethtown until a flood happened. Elizabeth Creek overflowed, forcing them to move. They moved to higher ground, which is now Trophy Club. The Medlin family greatly helped the town grow. A cemetery was built to honor their daughter, Mittie Ann Medlin. The middle school in Trophy Club is also named after the Medlins. The cemetery has information about the early settlers.
Years later, people in the DFW area wanted to develop the town. In 1973, developers Johnson and Loggins created the community. They built homes around a country club. The town was named "Trophy Club" because the country club was supposed to display the golf trophies of Ben Hogan. He designed the golf course there. Trophy Club was first part of Westlake. It became its own town in 1985. James "Jim" P. Carter was the first Mayor. He served from 1985 to 1999.
