Tucker Smallwood was born on February 22, 1944. He is an American actor, author, and singer. He is known for his many roles in movies and TV shows.
Early Life and Military Service
Tucker Smallwood is an African American actor. From 1967 to 1970, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was part of the Airborne Infantry. During the Vietnam War, he led a special team. In 1969, he was badly hurt and almost died. But he bravely survived his injuries. After getting better, Smallwood moved to New York City. There, he studied acting and started his career. He performed in plays on Broadway, in movies, and on television.
Acting and Music Career
Tucker Smallwood has appeared in many popular films. These include The Cotton Club (1984) and Contact (1997). He also acted in Deep Impact (1998) and Traffic (2000). On television, he has been a guest star on many well-known shows. Some of these are Space: Above and Beyond, Babylon 5, and The X-Files. He also appeared in Seinfeld, Friends, and Star Trek: Enterprise.
Smallwood often plays characters who are in the military. He is a big fan of science fiction. He always wanted to play an alien in Star Trek. He got close on Star Trek: Voyager. There, he played a human who was really a disguised alien. Later, on Star Trek: Enterprise, he finally played a full alien character. He was a kind Xindi for several episodes.
Besides acting, Tucker Smallwood also sings. He sometimes uses his singing skills in his acting roles. For example, he played his guitar as Commodore Ross on Space: Above and Beyond. He is also the singer for a blues band called Incarnation. Their first album was a tribute to the music of blues legend Robert Johnson.
Smallwood was also part of an art project. He was one of two actors in Bruce Nauman's video art piece. It was called "Good Boy Bad Boy" and came out in 1985.
Author and Storyteller
Tucker Smallwood is also a writer. He wrote a book called Return to Eden. This book is a collection of 33 personal stories. In it, he writes about his time in the Vietnam War. He also shares stories about his life as an actor. And he writes about his return to Vietnam in 2004. Some of these stories were first printed in magazines. In 2006, the audio version of Return to Eden won an award. It was a runner-up at the DIY Book Festival. In 2009, he hosted a TV and radio show. It was a horror story series called As Darkness Falls.
