Tukulti-Ninurta II's Reign

Tukulti-Ninurta II followed in the footsteps of his father, Adad-nirari II. His father was the first king of the Neo-Assyrian period, and he had made the empire strong. Tukulti-Ninurta II continued to build on his father's success.

Expanding the Empire

During his short time as king, Tukulti-Ninurta II helped make the Assyrian Empire even bigger and stronger. He continued to control lands that his father had won from groups like the Neo-Hittites, Babylonians, and Arameans.

He also led successful military trips into the Zagros Mountains in what is now Iran. There, he took control of new groups of people who had recently arrived in the area. These groups included the Persians and Medes.

Alliances and Treaties

Tukulti-Ninurta II won a victory against Ammi-Ba'al, who was the king of a place called Bit-Zamani. After his victory, Tukulti-Ninurta II made a special agreement, or treaty, with Ammi-Ba'al.

This treaty meant that Bit-Zamani became a friend and helper of Assyria. It also said that Ammi-Ba'al could not sell horses to Assyria's enemies. Ammi-Ba'al stayed in power, but he had to support Tukulti-Ninurta II in his military trips. These trips were to the Upper Tigris River area, where they fought against the Hurrians and Urartians in a region called Nairi.

Building Projects

Tukulti-Ninurta II also focused on improving important cities in his empire. He worked on both Nineveh and Assur. In these cities, he made the city walls better and stronger. He also built new palaces and temples. To make the gardens beautiful, he decorated them with pictures that showed his military victories.

Succession

After Tukulti-Ninurta II's reign ended in 884 BC, his son became the next king. His son was named Ashurnasirpal II.
