Twin Falls is a beautiful waterfall located on the Snake River in southern Idaho, United States. It's found within the impressive Snake River Canyon. Even though it's called "Twin Falls," today you mostly see one main waterfall.

Discovering Twin Falls

Twin Falls is a stunning waterfall on the Snake River in Idaho, USA. It's part of the amazing Snake River Canyon. The falls are near the city also named Twin Falls. They sit on the edge of two counties: Jerome and Twin Falls counties.

Where Are Twin Falls Located?

The Twin Falls are a few miles east of the city of Twin Falls. They are located upstream from other famous waterfalls like Pillar Falls and Shoshone Falls. Just a bit downstream from Twin Falls is the Milner Dam.

How the Dam Changed the Falls

The amount of water flowing over Twin Falls is controlled by the Twin Falls Dam. This dam helps manage water for two main reasons. First, it provides water for irrigation, which means watering crops in nearby farms. Second, it generates hydroelectric power, which is electricity made from the force of moving water.

The falls were originally named "Twin Falls" because there used to be two separate waterfalls flowing side-by-side on the river. However, when the Twin Falls Dam was built, it changed the river's flow. The dam permanently sent the water from the southern waterfall in a different direction. This left only one main waterfall flowing today.
