Tyrese Jammal Rice, born on May 15, 1987, is a former professional basketball player. He was born in America but also became a citizen of Montenegro. He even played for the Montenegro national team. Before turning pro, Tyrese played college basketball for the Boston College Eagles.

Tyrese Rice's Early Life
Tyrese Rice was born in Salisbury, North Carolina. He grew up in Chesterfield, Virginia, and went to L. C. Bird High School. There, he played on the school's basketball team. In his junior and senior years, he was recognized as one of the best players in the state.
During the 2004–05 season, Tyrese helped his team achieve a school record of 29 wins. They also won their first-ever Central Region title. That season, he averaged 27 points, 6.2 assists, and 5 rebounds per game. He was named Co-Player of the Year by the Associated Press (Virginia). The Times-Dispatch newspaper also named him their Player of the Year.
College Basketball Career
Tyrese Rice decided to play basketball at Boston College in April 2005. As a freshman in the 2005–06 season, he played in all 36 games. He averaged 9.3 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. He was named ACC Rookie of the Week and made the ACC All-Freshman team.
In his second year (2006–07), Tyrese started all 33 games. He played about 36.6 minutes per game. He finished the season averaging 17.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 5.4 assists. He was named to the All-ACC second team. He also received honors in the ACC tournament. In two NCAA tournament games, he averaged 24 points.
A big moment in his junior year (2007–08) was scoring a career-high 46 points. This happened in a game against North Carolina on March 1, 2008. He scored 34 points just in the first half! That season, he averaged 21 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5 assists. He was again honored, this time on the All-ACC first team. In his senior year (2008–09), his scoring went down a bit to 16.9 points per game. However, he improved in other areas, averaging 3.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists. He scored 9 points in Boston College's only game in the 2009 NCAA tournament.
Professional Basketball Journey
After college, Tyrese Rice was not chosen in the 2009 NBA draft. He then joined the Greek team Panionios for the 2009–10 season. In 2010, he played for the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings in summer leagues. He then signed with the Artland Dragons in Germany for the 2010–11 season.
For the 2011–12 season, Rice played for Lietuvos rytas in Lithuania. In the 2012–13 season, he went back to Germany to play for Bayern Munich.
Winning the EuroLeague
On July 11, 2013, Tyrese Rice signed a two-year contract with the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv. In his first season with Maccabi, he helped them win the EuroLeague. He averaged 9.5 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in 30 games.
Maccabi reached the EuroLeague Final Four. In the semifinal game, he scored the winning shot with only 5.5 seconds left. This gave his team a 68–67 victory over CSKA Moscow. In the championship game against Real Madrid, he scored 26 points. He led his team to a 98–86 overtime win, earning their sixth European title. Because of his amazing performance, he was named the EuroLeague Final Four MVP.
More Success in Europe
On June 30, 2014, Rice signed a three-year deal with the Russian club Khimki. In the 2014–15 EuroCup season, he was named to the All-EuroCup First Team. He was also chosen as the EuroCup season MVP. Khimki went on to win the EuroCup, and Rice was named the EuroCup Finals MVP.
On July 26, 2016, Rice signed a two-year contract with FC Barcelona. In January 2018, he left Barcelona and joined the Chinese team Shenzhen Leopards.
On August 5, 2018, Rice returned to Germany to play for Brose Bamberg. While with Bamberg, he played in the Basketball Champions League. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the competition. He led Bamberg to the Final Four, where they finished in fourth place.
On July 1, 2019, Rice signed with the Greek team Panathinaikos. On December 6, 2019, he scored a career-high 41 points. He helped Panathinaikos win 99–93 in overtime against Olympiacos. He announced that he would end his career at the end of that season. As a member of Panathinaikos, he won the Greek championship. He averaged 10.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game in the Greek League. He also averaged 10.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game in the EuroLeague. On August 17, 2020, Rice signed with AEK Athens.
The Basketball Tournament
In 2021, Tyrese Rice led a team called Boeheim's Army to win The Basketball Tournament 2021 Championship. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Playing for His Country
In July 2013, Tyrese Rice received a Montenegrin passport. This allowed him to play for the senior men's Montenegrin national team at the EuroBasket 2013. He also played for Montenegro at the EuroBasket 2017.
