Tyrone Deon Mings (born 13 March 1993) is an English professional footballer. He plays as a centre-back for Aston Villa.
Mings started his football journey in non-League teams like Yate Town. Before that, he spent eight years in the Southampton youth academy. In 2012, he joined Chippenham Town. Later that year, he signed with Ipswich Town. He made his professional debut in May 2013.
After two more seasons with Ipswich, Mings moved to AFC Bournemouth in 2015. He played his first Premier League game in August 2015. In January 2019, he joined Aston Villa on loan. He helped them get promoted to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs. Mings then signed with Aston Villa permanently in July 2019.
He was first called up to the senior England squad in August 2019. He made his debut for England in October 2019. In June 2021, Mings was chosen for the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. He started the first two games in that competition.

Club Career
Early Football Days
Tyrone Mings was born in Bath, England. His father, Adie Mings, was also a footballer. Tyrone joined Southampton when he was eight years old in 2001. However, he left the club in 2009.
After leaving Southampton, he went to Millfield school on a football scholarship. He then tried out for Eastleigh but did not get a contract. Mings then signed for Yate Town, a non-League club. In 2012, he thought about quitting football. But he decided to join Chippenham Town, the team from his hometown. While playing non-League football, Mings also worked as a barman and a mortgage advisor.
Time at Ipswich Town

Mings joined Ipswich Town in December 2012 after a short trial. Ipswich paid £10,000 for him. He made his debut for Ipswich on 4 May 2013, in the last game of the 2012–13 season.
For the 2013–14 season, Mings was the backup left-back. He played 18 games that season. After Aaron Cresswell left in July 2014, Mings was given the number 3 shirt. He even bought new shirts for two fans who had already bought shirts with his old number 15. On 20 September 2014, Mings signed a new three-year contract with Ipswich.
Mings became a key player in the 2014–15 season. He won the Championship Player of the Month award for September 2014. He scored his first goal for the club on 24 February 2015 against Birmingham City. Mings played 44 games that season, helping Ipswich reach the Championship play-offs.
Joining AFC Bournemouth
On 26 June 2015, Mings signed with Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. He signed a four-year contract.
Mings played his first Premier League game for Bournemouth on 29 August 2015. It was a 1–1 draw against Leicester City. However, he got a serious knee injury just six minutes after coming on. This injury kept him out of the game for a long time. He returned to play on 13 December 2016, after 15 months.
In March 2017, Mings was banned for five matches by the FA. This was after an incident during a game against Manchester United.
Moving to Aston Villa

Initial Loan Spell
On 31 January 2019, Mings joined Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the season. He played his first game for Villa on 2 February against Reading. During this match, there was an incident where Mings accidentally stepped on the face of Reading player Nélson Oliveira. Oliveira had to leave the game. Mings later said sorry, explaining it was not on purpose.
Mings scored his first goal for Villa in his second game, on 8 February 2019. He scored in the 82nd minute against Sheffield United. Villa was losing 3–0 but managed to draw the game 3–3. Mings quickly became a favorite among Villa fans. Villa then had a great run of ten wins in a row. Mings scored the winning goal in one of these games against Blackburn Rovers. On 27 May 2019, Mings played in the Championship play-off final. Villa beat Derby County 2–1 and earned promotion to the Premier League.
Premier League Journey
Mings signed with Aston Villa permanently on 8 July 2019. The transfer fee was reported to be around £20 million.
When the Premier League restarted in 2020 after a break, Mings said that players felt like they were not consulted enough. He felt they were treated like "commodities in the game."
On 21 September 2020, Mings signed a new four-year contract with Aston Villa. After Jack Grealish left the club, Mings became the new captain of Aston Villa on 14 August 2021. He had already been interim captain when Grealish was injured.
On 27 July 2022, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard decided to change the captain. John McGinn became the new captain. Gerrard said this would help Mings focus on his own game. Mings said he was fine with the decision and only wanted what was best for the team.
On 12 August 2023, on the first day of the 2023–24 season, Mings suffered a serious knee injury against Newcastle United. He had to be carried off the field.
After 420 days, Mings returned to football on 5 October 2024. He played for Aston Villa U21s against Newcastle. He returned to the first team on 30 October in an EFL Cup game against Crystal Palace.
Mings made a mistake in his Champions League debut on 6 November. He picked up the ball in his own penalty area after a short goal kick. This led to a penalty for Club Brugge. His manager, Unai Emery, called it "the biggest mistake I witnessed in my career."
On 4 June 2025, Mings signed a contract extension. This keeps him at Aston Villa until 2027.
International Career
Mings could play for England or Barbados. This was because his grandparents were from Barbados. His father had also turned down a call-up from Barbados.
Mings received his first call-up to the England squad in August 2019. This was for the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers. He earned his first senior England cap in October 2019. This was in a 6–0 win against Bulgaria. During this match, Mings reported racist chants from Bulgarian fans to his captain, Harry Kane. This helped stop the chanting.
In June 2021, Mings was chosen for the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. He started the first group game against Croatia on 13 June. England won 1–0 and kept a clean sheet. He also started the next game against Scotland on 18 June, which was a 0–0 draw. England finished top of their group.
After England lost the final to Italy, some England players faced online racist abuse. Mings spoke out against this. He responded to a politician on Twitter, saying that people should not encourage racist behavior. He highlighted the importance of their anti-racism message.
On 15 November 2021, Mings scored his first goal for England. It was in a 10–0 win against San Marino.
Personal Life
Off the field, Tyrone Mings is known for his good deeds. On Christmas Day 2013, he spent time feeding homeless people. When he got a new shirt number at Ipswich, he bought new shirts for fans who had already bought ones with his old number.
Mings also started his own youth football academy. It is called The Tyrone Mings Academy. It is in Birmingham, England, and helps children aged 6 to 16 learn football. He also has a business interest in an interior design company.
