Team History
The Starzz were one of the first eight teams in the WNBA. The team's name was partly inspired by an older basketball team called the ABA. The owners of the NBA team, the Utah Jazz, also owned the Starzz.
However, the Utah Jazz owners did not want to keep the Starzz team. If new owners were not found, the team would have to stop playing. No local owners in Salt Lake City stepped forward. So, in 2002, the Starzz announced they would move from Salt Lake City.
On December 5, 2002, a company called Spurs Sports & Entertainment bought the Utah Starzz. It was announced that the team would move to San Antonio. There, they changed their name to the Silver Stars. The Starzz were like a "sister team" to the NBA's Utah Jazz. In 2003, the team officially became the San Antonio Silver Stars.
Team Uniforms
From 1997 to 2002, the Starzz had specific uniforms. For home games, they wore white uniforms. These had blue on the sides and shoulders. The team's "Starzz" logo was in white text on the chest. For away games, they wore blue uniforms. These had purple on the sides. The white "Starzz" logo text was also on the chest. The Starzz logo was always on the shorts for both uniforms.
