Vagnhärad is a town in Sweden. It is located in Trosa Municipality, in Södermanland County. In 2020, about 3,976 people lived here. It is a place with interesting history and good connections.

Understanding the 1997 Landslide
On May 23, 1997, a landslide happened in Vagnhärad. It occurred along the Trosaån, also known as the Trosa River. This event damaged or destroyed seven homes.
Many houses were later taken down to prevent more slides. A total of 29 houses were removed. This meant 96 people had to find new homes.
Sports and Activities
Vagnhärad has great places for sports. There are two sports halls for different activities. They are called Hedebyhallen and Lånestahallen.
These halls are mostly used for school sports. They are also used by the floorball team Trosa Edanö IBK. You can also find a swimming pool here, named Safiren.
For soccer fans, there is a facility called Häradsvallen. The local soccer team, Vagnhärads SK, uses this field.
Learning in Vagnhärad
Vagnhärad has one main school for younger students. It is called Hedebyskolan. Most young people in the area attend this school.
Students go to Hedebyskolan for grades 1 through 9. After finishing here, most students continue their studies. They often go to high schools in Nyköping or Södertälje.
Getting Around Vagnhärad
Vagnhärad is easy to reach by road and rail. The town is located along the major highway European route E4. This highway connects many important places.
The railway line Nyköpingsbanan also runs through Vagnhärad. This line connects Nyköping and Järna. You can take a train from Vagnhärad to big cities like Stockholm and Södertälje. Other cities like Norrköping and Linköping are also accessible.
Buses offer more ways to travel. You can catch buses to nearby towns. These include Södertälje, Nyköping, Trosa, Gnesta, Västerljung, and Liljeholmen.
Exploring Vagnhärad's Culture
The area around Vagnhärad is rich in history. You can find many ancient sites here. These include Stone Age burial mounds. There are also unique and old runestones.
Vagnhärad was the inspiration for "Hedeby" in famous books. These books were written by Sven Delblanc. They include Åminne (1970) and Stenfågel (1973). The popular TV series Hedebyborna was based on these books. Much of the TV show was filmed in the Vagnhärad area.
A special building stands near the railway station. It is a historic royal waiting hall. The Swedish king Gustaf V used it. He would wait here during his summer visits to the royal palace of Tullgarn. This hall has been carefully preserved.
