Vale View is a locality with a mix of natural and man-made features. A small part of its northwest border follows the Southern railway line. The New England Highway runs along its southeast border.
Shepperd Neighbourhood
Within Vale View, there is a small area called Shepperd. This neighbourhood is located near where the Shepperd railway station used to be. The railway station was on the Southern railway line.

In the northern part of Vale View, you'll find some homes built on the southern side of Mount Shepperd. Most of the rest of Vale View is used for farming. Farmers grow crops and also raise animals like cattle on the natural grasslands.

How Shepperd Got Its Name
The name Shepperd was given to the railway station on April 29, 1915. It was suggested by the local council, the Drayton Shire Council. They named it after Samuel Shepperd, who was the manager of a large farming property called Glengallan.
The Story of Vale View School
In December 1930, plans were made to move a school building from a place called Pickanjinnie to Vale View. This new school, called Vale View State School, officially opened its doors on March 2, 1931.
