Ventu Park Open Space is a large natural area in Newbury Park, California. It covers 141 acres, which is about the size of 100 football fields! This park is famous for its main trail, the Rosewood Trail. This trail leads to a special spot called Angel Vista. Angel Vista is a peak that stands 1,603 feet high in the Santa Monica Mountains.
When you hike the Rosewood Trail, you'll start in a beautiful oak forest. You'll cross a small creek at the bottom of a canyon. Then, the trail climbs up to the top of Angel Vista. From there, you can see amazing views all around! You can spot the Conejo Valley, the Oxnard Plain, and even the Pacific Ocean. On clear days, you might even see the California Channel Islands and Point Mugu. You'll also see other mountains like the Santa Monica, Santa Susana, and Topa Topa Mountains.
To visit Ventu Park, you can exit the Ventura Freeway at Ventu Park Road in Newbury Park. Drive south for about half a mile until you reach Lynn Road. You'll pass the Stagecoach Inn Museum. Turn right and park at Susan Drive, near the Stagecoach Inn Park. The Rosewood Trail starts just across Lynn Road. This trail was created in the early 1980s. It climbs about 800 feet from start to finish.

Exploring the Rosewood Trail
The Rosewood Trail is more than just a path to Angel Vista. It's actually the beginning of a much longer trail system! This system is called the Los Robles Trail. It's the longest trail managed by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA).
Connecting to Other Trails
The Los Robles Trail connects Ventu Park to many other natural areas. These include places like the Hope Nature Preserve and Los Padres Open Space. It also links to Conejo Ridge Open Space, Deer Ridge Open Space, Old Conejo Open Space, and Los Vientos Open Space. The entire Los Robles Trail is about 25 miles long. It stretches from Newbury Park all the way to Westlake Village. Along the way, it crosses through Hidden Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Lake Sherwood.
Hiking to Point Mugu
If you're feeling adventurous, you can take another path from the Rosewood Trail. You can cross the Potrero Ridge. This path leads to a place called Satwiwa. From Satwiwa, you can connect to even more trails. These trails go through the Santa Monica Mountains and lead to Point Mugu. They pass through a large area known as Big Sycamore Canyon.
Activities on the Trail
The trails in Ventu Park are popular for many outdoor activities. You'll see people hiking, mountain biking, and even riding horses. The Rosewood Trail itself is a 5-mile roundtrip hike. This means it's 2.5 miles to Angel Vista and 2.5 miles back to the Stagecoach Inn Park.
