Exploring Lac Vert's Location

Lac Vert is a natural lake. It is fed mainly by small streams along its banks. The lake is about 3.6 km (2.2 mi) long and 0.75 km (0.47 mi) wide. It sits at an elevation of 142 m (466 ft) above sea level.

To the north of Lac Vert, there is another lake called Kénogamichiche Lake. A narrow strip of land, only about 0.03 km (0.019 mi) to 0.26 km (0.16 mi) wide, separates the two lakes.

Where the Water Flows

The water from Lac Vert flows out from its northeast side. From there, it travels through a series of rivers and lakes.

  • First, the water goes through Kénogamichiche Lake for about 3.2 km (2.0 mi) to the west.
  • Then, it follows the Rivière des Aulnaies for about 5.9 km (3.7 mi) northwest.
  • Next, it joins La Belle Rivière and flows northwest for about 6.1 km (3.8 mi).
  • After that, the water enters the eastern part of Lac Saint-Jean and travels north for about 15.4 km (9.6 mi).
  • Finally, it flows into the Saguenay River and travels about 172.3 km (107.1 mi) to Tadoussac. At Tadoussac, the water from Lac Vert mixes with the large Saint Lawrence estuary and eventually reaches the Atlantic Ocean.
