What's in a Name?
The creek has had a few different names over time. It was first called Cedar Creek. Later, its name changed to Vickery Creek. This name honors a Cherokee woman named Sharlot Vickery. She lived in the area that is now Roswell. Sharlot Vickery owned a lot of land around the creek. The name Vickery Creek became common after Roswell King and his family arrived in 1834.
After the American Civil War, the creek also became known as Big Creek. Today, both names are still used.
